firefighters occasionally Occupational cancer is the leading cause of line of duty deaths in professional firefighters and has reached epidemic levels. No approval. Second.

    Kathryn StarkeyChair

All in favor? Aye. Uh. That's a tough subject. I mean I'm I'm so glad that we're here and and raising awareness uh of this issue and uh and that I think that advances have come along that Um are allowing us to build And um provide better equipment and facilities for you so that these issues hopefully are gonna stop now. So Um We're so grateful for all that you do. And

I I think I saw some of y'all on T V this morning. Or or on the news. Some something was going on with the fire. Only saw it briefly while I was getting ready. Um, but just grateful for for all you do for us, and I'm sure the other commissioners want to share in some comments. I'll start down here with Commissioner Oakley.

    Ron Oakley

Yeah, we we thank you for all that you do and all the course all the service people of the fire department and all that they do every day for all of us. They put your lives on the line and and we certainly appreciate all that. So

    Mike Moore

Yeah, no. Just to go off what Commissioner Oakley, Chairwoman Starkey said, and and um Commissioner Oakley, you know, we appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you also very, very much for what you do on a daily basis um and your dedication to Pasco County. Obviously, um we're very, very grateful for each and every one of you. So hopefully the things that obviously the county's participating in and as well as a state level, I know they're very involved as well in a national level, we can uh help nip this in the butt. So thank you.

    Christina Fitzpatrick

Thank you. Thank you. Um I would like to say thank you for your service, thank you for all that you do, and I would like to make sure that we continue to support and make sure you have the proper equipment to make sure that we can prevent And make sure that you have all the cancer preventative equipment out there. And again, thank you. We need to protect you as you protect us and serve Pasco County. Thank you.

    Jack MarianoVice Chair

Thank you. I'd like to thank you all as well. The uh the job you guys put your neck on the line every day, uh, protecting our citizens not only from fires as well, but for the paramedic work you guys do is phenomenal. Uh you may see the citizen survey, but you guys are at the top of the list in every category uh with what you're doing. So we're we're proud that we put the resources in to try to help you do a better job, be a safer uh community amongst yourselves. Um and we're gonna keep keep backing you every step of the way. So thank you for all you do.

    Kathryn StarkeyChair

Okay, so I'm going to come down and we'll take a photo down here and the board members will stand behind.

We have I have two extra here, I'm gonna put 'em here. Who's gonna open it?

    Unidentified speakerVoice A

    Thank you.

    Mike Moore

    Mm-hmm.

    Kathryn StarkeyChair

But you know, I didn't think about it, but did anyone you know, normally the chief would come up and speak. Does but does anyone want to say anything from your group? We'd we'd love to hear from you. It's Et Ch.

    County Administrator

    Jeremy,

    Unidentified speakerVoice B

you wanna tell them what they're you're doing to help with this problem? Sure. Um first thank you. Um Commissioners, uh, and thank you to our our residents and uh for the support. Uh you know, we we do a dangerous job, we knew that coming in. Um, but it's you know the risk is there and we do what we can to try to mitigate it, but we couldn't do without the support uh from the board to have the some of the amazing programs that we have. We have uh Chief Schmidt, our division division chief of health, safety and wellness, um, supports our DCOM program and our rehab program for firefighters.

One of the only places probably in the world that that does uh post fire decontamination the way we do. We have uh a truck that drives around with extra gear that you guys have supported the program through for for a couple of years now. Um we pull firefighters right out of a fire, we clean them off, we put 'em in fresh gear. It never gets back in the truck. You keep it away from the stations. Um even in our new station builds. You know, we we have uh, you know, prevention measures that are going into our new station designs. And it's unlike anything else in the world. So it's that's That's premiere for us. We're the guiding light, hopefully, um for the fire industry across the world. So we

    appreciate your support. Thank you.

    Kathryn StarkeyChair

Thank you very much. What's that? Yeah, good job.
