   1:17:10Good morning, Commissioner. Johanna Rodriguez, Intergovernmental Affairs. We're here to celebrate the 2020 Citizens Academy graduating class. This is the ninth academy we've held since 2014. Because of your support and the popularity of the program, we offer it to our citizens twice a year in the fall and winter. The 2020 program was certainly different from any other. Halfway through the academy, we had to postpone the remaining two sessions due to the pandemic. We thank our 2020

   1:17:40class for being flexible. More importantly, we thank them for adjusting their schedules to join us in culminating the program via a virtual session. Uh prior to the pandemic, each week we tackled a new department or constitutional office and saw the operations through the eyes of our team members. For instance, with the West Pasco Government Center role-playing exercise. Development Services hosted a mock board of county commissioners meeting where the participants

   1:18:11signed up for a character assignment and experienced the process firsthand. We actually have Tara O'Connor, one of this year's Academy participants on the line, and she'd like to say a few words on behalf of the class. Tara?

   1:18:37Well good morning. Um I'm a proud member of the Thank you. If you ever think today I'll be up virtual. I'm very proud to be part of the Citizens Academy winner class. And as Johanna said, 2020, of course, as you all are perfectly well aware, is no normal no normal year. But as part of the class, we want to thank you for the opportunity to participate in this academy. As citizens of Pasco Our class comes from all different backgrounds, representing varied ages and careers,

   1:19:07and representing different geographic areas of Pasco. This academy allowed us to learn about the inner workings of our county government. We're thankful for the opportunity to meet our County Administrator Dan Mills and his amazing team. We were able to have a Q ⁇ A session with Property Appraiser Gary Joiner. Supervisor of Elections, Brian Corley, our Superintendent of Schools, Kurt Browning, our clerk and comptroller Nikki Alvarez Soles, and who can forget tax collector Mike Fasano and his

   1:19:38famous words, Ching Ching. While we weren't able to meet with Sheriff Sheriff Nacko during our visit to the jail. Our class is certainly grateful that no one was attained during our tour. We learned about internal services. We did had a great time with the budget game. Who knew there'd be so much backlash in recommending closing a library for one day over the weekend? The exercise certainly provided the class with an appreciation for what you all do in the budgeting process. We appreciate

   1:20:08learning about the dynamic team of the public services branch, from senior and veteran services to the Department of Health and Animal Services. And from public transportation to parks and rack. We enjoyed meeting at venues across the county. And we were thankful for the chance to talk with the development services branch, and our class certainly was not shy in asking questions regarding permitting, code enforcement, zoning, and planning. We did enjoy the mock board meeting, and there's no doubt that some of our class

   1:20:38members really immersed themselves into their individual character assignments. While we weren't able to complete the academy in person nor be there today for graduation, we want to thank everybody for providing this to the citizens of Pasco. Lastly, we would be remiss if we didn't thank Johanna Rodriguez. For leading each semester, keeping us on time and on task, while always looking for ways to improve the academy for future classes. In the end, our class is honored to now be alumni of

   1:21:08the Citizens Academy. And we will always remember our experience. And I am sure I speak on behalf of the class when I say. We will recommend this program to our friends and neighbors and others. Thank you.
