Alright. Uh I'm just I'm gonna bring up Hernando County and my commissioner items and not talk about that here. Button. Thanks. And we'll we'll figure it out. I have faith. Okay, uh R seventy eight.
As to the agended item though, the is there an action required for Mr. Stein Smith? No, seventy-seven. No.
Oh, no action required for the Mr.
No seventy-seven. Seventy-eight there is.
Seth is actually. R seventy eight.
David, we've gone seventy eight is the
the resolution.
So seventy-eight is a resolution uh illustrating the board's intent to take over the jail operations on on or about the first of October. We need this approved by the board in order to move forward in the process with FDLE. Uh we need an ORI number because that's what it we need to s that's really at this point the critical path uh to to take over the jail. And so we need the board to approve this resolution so that FDL can move forward with getting the ROI number in place so that we can do the background checks, post the personnel
files, et cetera, on the current DL employees and also hire the new corrections officers. So that's what this is.
Board members, any questions on R seventy eight?
Uh uh Commissioner Weight with this item about the detention center and us taking it over, um I think we need to go forward on it with with our best intent and best we still got the right staff, Mr. Biles will be leaving, but we have the right staff in place to take care of that and I think we need to send that message very strong back to uh our people that work with with the sheriff's offices that are in the jail system that we'll be taking over as employees and we've told them that we're
coming and we should with this agreement we should tell 'em we are coming. We'll take care of that.
So
Commissioner Mariano.
Thank you, Madam Chair. Um I had met with the sheriff yes uh day before yesterday. Actually no yesterday. Then I went to Orange County. the sh the the jails leadership team was all there. Uh Andrew Baxter was there, Joan Joanna Cheshire was there. So the whole team would listen to Orange County how they've been doing that they've been doing for the past thirty years. Uh the discussions were very good. Orange County What a great professional group they are. They were like they've given us a full support of whatever you need, we're here to help you go through the process. I was very
impressed. There was one issue that came up that we discussed um It has to do with dual certification of the people in the jail. And I talked with the sheriff about that this morning on the way in. And uh we think we've got good resolution to try to work where he can decide who he's um I would like to continue working with that group for the next couple of months. Uh you know, I I you've heard me talk about Charlotte County when they had the FAC trip down there and they showed us what they had mental health, drug addiction, hospital
they kind of built and has been working now for three years. Um our staff didn't do a lot or didn't do any research on it really. They're gonna go down there trying to work work that out to go down there to go see what they're doing. This may mean we take a look at our jail construction we're gonna do and make s make some tweaks to it. But I want to work with the correction folks to make sure they're 100% confident what we're gonna build is going to serve them best as well. So if the board will allow me, I'll kind of stay with that and kind of keep working that through.
Yeah, and um Dan is shaking his head.
We have a team working on that and we can keep you involved as to what's going on, but I mean we have a team working on that full speed.
That's all right. But I just want the board to know that so we don't get to move approval. Second?
Um any more discussion?
No that be
all in favor? Aye. Opposed?
Madam Chairman, while you're on that item rather than bringing up under a separate item, just as uh update from uh clerk uh
There has been a selection uh for a auditing firm to do those critical areas that need that financial and uh transitional audit. Uh the uh a successful discussions uh have occurred and we are now in final negotiation uh for the contract uh to be executed here shortly. So that piece for those things that are critical for transitional inventory and as opposed to audit
are well under the way and should work within the timelines that that the board is anticipating.
