Introduction of an Amendment to the County Code of Ordinances, Creating Section 90-2, Establishing Requirements for the Proper Disposal of Pet Waste – No Funding Required

2:17:48Good morning commissioners. Juanita Bernal, Senior Project Manager in Public Works. I am here to present the introduction of an amendment to the County Code of Ordinances establishing requirements for the proper disposal of pet waste.

2:18:09So next slide please. Uh so DEP has identified specific water bodies in in our jurisdiction that are impaired because we have excess nutrients or bacteria under the Florida impaired water rule. Based on this, DP has mandated total maximum daily load in some of those waterways. And uh they have adopted basic management action plans, which are actually restoration plans that we have to commit with. And

2:18:40um this is basically in the watersheds of the Spring Coast and the Tampa Bay. Uh this ordinance that I'm bringing today, it's part of the strategies that uh Pasco County is implementing for the required pollutant load reductions and the bacteria into these surface waters, the springs, and the Gulf of Mexico, and of course Tampa Bay too. Next slide, please. So basically what we are asking you to approve today is uh creating

2:19:10a new uh code uh a new amendment to the code of ordinance. This will be creating a new section and it's gonna be chapter 90-2 of the ordinance. And basically it will establish requirements for the proper disposal of pet waste. One of the essential requirements of this new section is that basically the pet owners and the pet keepers are required to immediately pick up after their

2:19:40pet waste. Uh the public hearing has been established to be September twenty of twenty twenty two at one thirty PM.
