Whereas Irish American Heritage Month is recognized in March every year as a way of honoring the achievements and contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants living in the United States. And whereas the first recorded celebration of Irish Americans occurred with a Patrick's Day parade in New York City in 1762. By 1776,

4:19nearly 300,000 Irish nationals had emigrated to the American colonies, playing a crucial role in America's war for independence. And whereas Irish Americans played vital roles in the development of the United States of America and in creating the American system of government. I eight Irish Americans were signatories to the Declaration of Independence, and nineteen presidents of the United States have been of Irish heritage. And whereas countless Irish Americans have been recognized for playing

4:49major roles in history of the United States. For example, the Irish-born James Hoban, who provided architectural plans for the White House in 1792, also served as one of the supervising architects for the United States Capitol. And whereas Irish-born Commodore John Barry fought the last sea battle of the American Revolution off the coast of Florida and was later recognized by the United States Congress as the first flag officer of the United

And whereas Irish Americans have provided leadership and service to the United States of America since the nation's founding, and it is fitting and proper to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and the many valuable contributions of Irish Americans. Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida, the said board hereby proclaims the month of March. As a resident of Lando Lakes, thank you for serving the communities of Pasco County. As a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, thank you for proclaiming March Irish American Heritage Month. For those who may not know, Hibernia is the Latin term for Ireland. Hibernian is anyone of Irish birth or descent. The Ancient Order of Hibernians is the oldest Irish Catholic fraternal organization in

6:51the United States. It was founded in eighteen thirty six. I belong to the James Powers Division, one of two divisions in Pasco County. The other division is located in Newport Ritchie. One of our core principles is friendship. It's for that reason I am truly grateful to accept this proclamation as it demonstrates your friendship to all Irish American residents of Pasco County.
