Shoe campaign and parks and libraries

0:00This year with COVID, we really debated do we do this or do we or do we not do this? And it was determined that by golly, this is a year that families need this more than ever. So we continued. A little bit different this year. We had Dunkin' Donuts join us, so it was a huge deal for us to have Dunkin' Donuts join us. We want to say thank you and the amazing team that we have, including our constitutional officer. So this has been the challenge, but we pulled it off.

0:27This year, you know, we were able to partner with uh the firefighter charities at Pasco to um uh collect all the funds directly from the firefighters themselves and then they and their group went out and actually bought all the shoes so and the socks. That uh went into the campaign. So

0:42employees, like I say, do a great job and the campaign is a great campaign. And the outpouring of goodwill from our businesses and from our citizens giving these shoes to these kids. So I think it's just a great thing for Pasco County.

0:59By doing something as simple as organizing an event to come up with Socks and shoes to take that distraction away. Uh and it sets just one child up for success. Well then it's worth it.

1:13You know, it means a lot to me to see all those groups pull together to fill what we saw was an unmet need four, five, six years ago when this started, right? And to now see it growing to to to where it is today just uh really uh you know fills your heart with pride and makes you feel good about the team and what we're doing here.

1:35Well I'll tell you Pasco County's got a great history of being per capita the most generous county in on on in in the USA. Uh I think our employees just emulate that and carry that forward. To provide that feeling to a student, just thank you.

1:49And you see it in their smiles, you see it in like they have an extra pep in their stab and they're just like really happy.

1:55We could not have done what we've done for the past couple of years without two good souls.

While many of you have been staying at home helping stop the spread of COVID-19, we've been using this unique time working in all our parks to enhance your experience. Let's take a look. On your next visit to JB Starkey Wilderness Park, you can walk the new shell path leading to the beautiful new Bird Blind. And in Key Vista Nature Park, you'll see how grant funding made it possible to protect the gopher tortoises as we wrapped up this important habitat

3:38restoration project. You'll also notice big improvements at the Pet Cemetery in Land O' Lakes, where our team has worked to spruce up the space, resetting headstones and removing debris. We've knocked one out of the park for our athletes with major improvements to baseball, softball, and soccer fields in several of our county parks. And our team members are taking a paintbrush to almost everything, including picnic tables, concession stands, even our rec centers. there is no doubt that, from trimming

4:08trees and repairing fences, To pressure washing. and building new gardens and playgrounds. You will see big changes on your next visit. And a huge thank you to our parks team for stepping up to help the children of frontline workers by hosting a critical day camp when they had no other place to go. 4:49Hi, I'm Angelo Lorenzo, Regional Branch Manager for the Pasco County Libraries. I'm at the New River Library, where we've made great progress in the renovations. Most of the structural work has been completed.

5:09New ceiling and flooring. and new interior walls that will create a more user-friendly space for our community. There is a lot in store for the community when we reopen in early 2021. Once you enter the library, take a few minutes to learn more about our offerings on the digital display in the lobby. As you pass through our lobby and onto the main floor, you'll be greeted by our friendly staff at the information desk. We are all eager

5:39to welcome you back and show off our new spaces. We'll have expanded children's and teen areas, separated from the rest of the library by glass windows and doors. It will be a great place to have story time for young readers and their families, and a place for teens and tweens to hang out with their friends. On the main floor, there is plenty of comfortable seating for relaxation and study. and a large bank of public computers. And oh yes,

6:09plenty of books with a collection that has been tailored to the community's interests. Outside will be our expanded community garden where you can learn hands-on skills, plant your own vegetables, and enjoy the green space.
