Last application and fire tower
What the county recorded
This item is not from the published agenda
It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.
The source document
The county’s agenda for Planning Commission, Oct 28, 2021
The published PDF. Its text could not be extracted — it is an image-only scan — so nothing in it is searchable here, but it reads normally.

What was said
Machine transcription of 6m of recording, with speaker names inferred from voice matching. 100% of 42 lines carry a name. It shows what was said, not what was decided, and both the words and the names can be wrong.
Um I just wanna touch on one thing. Because this last application that we heard
I think that's a good thing. You know, I was really conflicted about how I voted for that because Um I r I felt that the Applicant. was offering to do a lot to get what he needs and Th these are things that needed to be done and I was I was looking at this Um aerial here and I was thinking, Wow look at those row of uh Rooftops. And and the where were all these rooftops you could walk from one to the other and yet they're complaining w there's all this green space you
know, next to 'em. I you know, a lot of it didn't make a lot of sense to me in terms of You know. why we should why we should turn it down. But I think the point Jamie was making and it's a good one and I think it's something we need to think about in the future is When you have a Euclidean zoning like this, and that correct me if I'm wrong. You know, we can't condition it. So if we if we want something th they have to agree to deed restriction. And if we don't have it written
down properly Then you know, the guy gets approval, he can go do whatever he wants to do. So That's a danger and that's I I felt r really uneasy about voting to approve it. Because I knew Jamie was right in what he said. Or or
or even more so that that zoning runs with the property. Right. So he could therefore sell it.
Yes.
Somebody else could do
something completely different. Absolutely. As you said, you could end up with fifty five driveways.
Yeah. Right. So so my what I'm hanging my hat really on is Liz is that
is
that you're gonna get with Barbara and hold hold her hold her feet to
the fire.
And uh are you gonna are you or David? I you know, I have a lot of confidence in both of you, so and
maybe I'm making a mistake putting confidence in Barbara, but I I believe on her record, uh, I don't believe she would misrepresent the intent of the owner.
All I'm saying is if if she Even as good as she is and as honest as she is, she can't control that. What happens to you know. So It's really it's up to us to To control it. Yeah. So I I'm hoping that in the future we'll probably be a little bit more resolute about Making sure it is in writing. then five years from now it didn't come back and slap us in the face. Right. You know. So I just want to make a comment
about that 'cause I I thought you had made a good point. Oh yeah. You know.
I mean and and sometimes we're faced with contentious items that I mean there there's contention even between the two associations of the owner and the and the association in that case.
I I felt bad for the guy 'cause he was seemed like he was doing so much to you know, to try to alleviate their problem. you know, a problem that really in my opinion their homeowners association should have fixed. Yeah.
Well the future's gonna be is you're gonna have two homeowners associations in the community you've got is plus the other one. And in my opinion uh is the other one wasn't doing their job. Well I I t
completely agree with you.
And you know, I w the community I live in I should
But un but unless we put it in writing this new owned association is not gonna have to do their job either. So And
two enforces that going forward.
Right, exactly. That's Right. I mean
history recreates itself.
That's true. Well that's just my comment. Yep. Okay. Anybody else for the opportunity to
serve? One more thing on you on your concern with some of those ordinance revisions and stuff. I mean I know Denise and staff they they go above and beyond with all the outside committees and and all the review teams to to go over that stuff. So usually when it gets to us it's usually pretty safe. Thank
you for saying that. Yeah.
Yeah. I and I appreciate you saying that, Jamie, because the worst thing that can happen is to have A lot of people in this room say, Oh no, we don't want that. That's terrible. That's gonna help, you know, that's gonna affect us or whatever. So certainly w we want to make sure that we've talked to all the subject matter experts and all the people. So I appreciate that.
In my experience that you're very thorough.
We we try to do that.
Th there
are
a couple of occasions where things do come to us and usually there's a row of consultants or two or four out there that are here in in opposition to screams. Yeah.
And you know, we have n been known because it has happened in the past. Because we we want to make sure the package amendments move forward, but we have pulled a certain item out of if it's something very contentious and we think we still need to work on, we'll pull that out. So I mean we've done we've done that before. In in the years I've been here we've done that a few times. So
Yes, I do recall a fire uh tower being built and you guys opposed it on Dade City and uh some folks were in favor, you remember that one. And uh I don't know what ever happened. Mr
McKnight passed away sadly a few years ago. So um his wife is still around. Um it wa the way the board approved it ultimately was that it was for Mr McKnight and his wife and no successors and interest. So So once Ms. McKnight I d I don't even want to say this, once they're no longer owners of that property, there's requirements for removal.
Yes.
But I don't believe it was ever fully built. I think they're just like two sections, so it's not very tall. Yeah, that was sad.
So those kinds of things do come and it's uh Uh yeah, I remember that one. Yeah, it's really kinda hard. Do you want to have something for this individual who was uh kind and considerate and Yeah, I didn't know him at all. And what
in Dade City and
he he wanted this particular thing done 'cause he he liked to be closer to the heavens, I guess. I don't know. But uh those sometimes are things that are done. I just like today I felt like, you know, those
