we have Tropical Storm Elsa coming up the West Florida coast. Uh we have uh Laura Wilcox and the Interim Director of Emergency Management online to give you brief. Update on that, and then I'll request that you approve the local state of emergency for us to deal with the storm as it comes. Go ahead, Laura.
Mm-hmm. No, that in general. for Paxton County Emergency Management. I have a quick PowerPoint briefing for you. Uh the current forecast that we're can't have for tropical storm alpha is that we will see sustained tropical storm force winds around 65 miles per hour. We are expecting to receive a moderate storm surge however it starts coming in at below low tide and we'll see it coming over at high tide. We're expecting like hurricane data type
conditions that we experience back in November 2020 where it didn't come over too far and we had minor road flooding for that. County wide we're looking at about four to six inches of rain with isolated areas of Powder Mount across Pasco County. And currently we are under a tropical storm warning, a stormwater warning, and a hurricane launch just for the wind speeds along the coastal part of the town. That's fine.
The current action that we are taking into the county is our EOC is activated at level one modified. That means our commanded general staff is at the EOC 24-7 with some of them working remotely. or twenty-four hours uh operational period. Uh from emergency management, we've been monitoring the storm for over a week now from participating in local, regional and state conference calls. We have four county sandbag locations currently operating
since Friday. So far we have given out over 7,000 sandbags. Our public works teams have been busy deploying pumps, moving water from normal flood areas, especially over on the west side of the county. They've been managing minor road flooding that we've seen from heavy rains and right now, first storm of the year, they put some we still have the capacity to accommodate the rainfalls anticipated from this farm. We have opened up our residential information center as our customer service team.
They will be staffing overnight tonight, so we will be open for 24 hours for any residents that have questions or concerns to call in. Right now. We've been out long-term regions and we found that they are low. We expect that we can accommodate the additional rainfall. We do have the shelter on standby, but as we're not anticipating a mass need for sheltering, we have no evacuations anticipated at this time. Based on the current forecast
and the current county action, I would recommend to the board that we execute the local state of emergency. Thank you.
