County Attorney law library and warrant scam
What the county recorded
This item is not from the published agenda
It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.
The source document
The county’s agenda for Board of County Commissioners, Aug 22, 2023
The published PDF, as served by the county. This item is one entry in it.

What was said
Machine transcription of 2m of recording, with speaker names inferred from voice matching. 100% of 8 lines carry a name. It shows what was said, not what was decided, and both the words and the names can be wrong.
I have two quick items. Okay. So uh the first one is uh our office provides law library services for the county through the Legal Resource Center. So I want to make you aware of a new service for certain non-confidential civil cases. Um we have a new filings viewer. in the Legal Resource Center. This often comes up with the public and in the media for certain. When new cases are filed, they have to normally wait for them to be processed to be able to see them. This will
allow them to see them as soon as soon as they're filed as long as they're not, you know, a confidential case type. So just want to make the board aware since we provide services for the board and the legal resource center. The second one is a warrant scam that's out there that um we are we are alerting out on our side. Um it it actually happened in Pinellas, but uh we share the same chief judge with Judge Crane and it's a scam where a citizen um had some deputies that
or they pretended to be Pinellas County deputies calling the citizen and telling them That because they had a failure to appear in a civil violation, a warrant was issued for her arrest. And essentially the citizen was worried about it and even looked up the individual's names online because they were real Pinellas County deputies, she ended up believing it, but they scammed her out of twelve thousand dollars, twelve thousand five hundred dollars. to resolve
the w arrest warrant. Um and so the victim purchased the gift cards. I mean they directed her to purchase gift cards and send the barcodes over the phone. Um and they they Sh they were smart scammers because they used real Penells County deputies and Chief Judge Crane's name in the scam and that's how they got away with it. Um and so because we shared the same we were in the same circuit, wanna we're telling Pasco residents also about the scam. So that is it.
It's scary if somebody's asking for g gift cards.
They do it all the time. They do it with jury scams. They
they do
it we get calls weekly probably.
