Tax collector presents check three million dollars

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

Okay. Well before we move to consent, I do have a time certain and I see d our tax collector, Senator Frasano, is here. I'd like to invite him up at this time. Good morning.

How are you? Excellent. So you have a big crowd forming in front of your office there to vote, yes.

Tax Collector

Hey, good morning everyone. Mr. Chairman, thank you for allowing me to come before you this morning. I won't take but a couple of minutes. Uh as you know, uh each year we do our best to try and bring you some dollars. Um with the pandemic uh and um a COVID nineteen Uh we expected to have a significant reduction this year. In fact, we sent a letter, I think, to you and to Mr. Biles uh telling you that we uh thought that we'd be in half of what we expected, which would have been about about just

about one point five million dollars. So I'm here. God bless my staff, we were able to keep things going, even though we had to close the uh our our lobbies. We still continue to provide service. Um I will also tell you that um Uh we were number one in the states and continue to be and uh And uh giving out concealed weapon permits. Awesome, yeah. I'm I tell people I'm I'm arming everybody in Pasco. Um

but the good news is I'm here to present to you a check in the amount of three million four hundred and fifty seven thousand dollars. Uh of that amount, um I've spoken to Mr. Biles and his and uh and his staff. Uh we are building a facility, I shouldn't say building, I apologize, renovating a facility in San Anne. Uh that will house um our department that oversees the printing and the mailing of our tax notices and our monthly uh registration

renewals, and the list goes on. Uh we've already put out so much to the contractor, but as you know, uh state law says that you cannot Um A tax collector cannot take money and roll it over to the next year. We have to get rid of it. So with that said, uh we are asking of from that three million four hundred and fifty-seven thousand dollars, uh three hundred and five thousand dollars to be put to the side to when we have to find a uh uh pay the

contractor. So you can keep three point one million, I want uh three hundred and five thousand.

Jack Mariano

Okay,

Tax Collector

great. Thank

Jack Mariano

you, sir. That is correct.

Tax Collector

So if I can I'll bring this to the clerk.

Jack Mariano

Okay, very good. Very good. I get to touch it first.

Thank you, Senator. Thank you. Thanks for all your great work. And thanks for your team's great work.

Tax Collector

Oh I'm telling you, I'm blessed. And uh we'll need a signature and I'll take that one back.

Jack Mariano

There you go. That's proof that you gave it to me, right? Maybe I should have had the clerk sign that.

Tax Collector

I'll meet you later on, Mr.

Um I I want to special thanks to not only to you, Commissioner, your leadership in this county has been second to none with as we go through this pandemic. Uh Your county administrator and his staff, Dan Biles has been phenomenal. and in leading us through this uh this serious crisis. And I really appreciate everything that you're doing. uh the uh the things that we've been able to do at our office. uh with temperature gauging, uh with a uh uh a a a ticketless CULISS, uh ticket uh ticket

Q less that that we're able to give people tickets so they can wait in their in their cars and they are text when their numbers come up. I mean And and Dan has been outstanding in making sure that happens and we appreciate it. So God bless you.
