Chairman Hudson Beach tourism and beach project

1:55:47Thank you. And Mr. Clark. Uh nothing from uh the clerk's office. Okay. Um I've got a picture of Hudson Beach. I just wanted to show it to you. You know, we talk about tourism up around the county and the coast. People the number one and two reasons people come to uh Florida are beaches and fishing. This is Hudson Beach, which is this is the part where the swimming areas, where they see the buoys right there. That's where people are supposed to go in and swim. This past year we had a a lot of the water going down

1:56:17in the canal, we c put it up on the beach before the storm hit. This thing had eroded over the past few months just the way this is. Uh we had gone to the state with a program to put a seawall up, uh grant funding to go run along the seawall, running it up around, creating a beach all the way around it, keeping everybody out of the canal, protecting the canal from the erosion going in. Um we had it through the House and Senate, uh got vetoed to the governor's office when Hurricane Ian and the money we had put in the previous year. year uh didn't get funded through the sprinkle.

1:56:48Uh this past year no one picked it up. And as much as you know we've just Gone through and you see these are people that come in from out of town. that are going up and down to look at the sunset coming in. Um People front come from all over, they want to go see Hudson Beach. And when they get there, from what they can see, you can see it's a bit of a disappointment. We've got a plan in place we can go through. Uh to design the plan is gonna be 250,000. To build it the estimate is gonna be around two million. But I

1:57:18think it's something we need to go do. Um if we can get reliance from the outside after we put the design in place we know what's The cost's going to be so be it. But if we're going to spend $25 million for complexes on the on the east side, I'm telling you the people on this side here that have contributed for all these years haven't got any capital money back in. I think it's something we need to bring back and take a look at. Again, this is Hudson Beach where you get two fantastic restaurants right there, another bar down the street that people want to come down here

1:57:48to see what's going on there, to see the sunset. That and wouldn't it be nicer if they saw a nice white sandy beach, kind of like the way they improved Rogers Park, we could do the same thing here. We could provide better swimming opportunities, better beach opportunities, which is all better for tourism. And if we do have those ten little boat ramps on both stalls along the side where the pavilion is, that it creates better for scalding season as well. So

1:58:14Um list I sent you of the county by county allocations. There are are okay, here's one. Brevard County. Uh South Beach Dune Restoration, it's under the beach project. They got $1.8 million and there is no Senate form after it. So it's some kind of grant that the state gives out for

1:58:44beach beach projects. Why don't we apply for

1:58:49So what we need to do is you need to do the the um environmental studies and all the studies for our for you can have a plan in place. You can have a shovel ready type project to go. So that's why I asked you for the two fifty to get started, undo the design. If you do the design, you get a plan to go forward, you get the permitting in place.

1:59:05Can we do it for all our beaches? I mean what we have Green Key, we have this one. Can we just Plan to 'Cause if we have a design in place then we can be part of this beach grant money for the state. It's going to all these other counties. Why why are we doing it for all our beaches?

1:59:23I am fine to put green key in the mix too. I mean I I've actually asked for that to be put in with between the roads and the other improvements down that whole area. So you want to put green key in it, that's fine too.
