Planning Commission staggered terms resolution

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

Denise

Mr. Chairman, Denise Hernandez Planning and Development. Before you adjourn today, I want to go over some an item that we are Planning and Development Department is presenting to the Board of County Commissioners on February 19th, which is to discuss the staggered terms of the Planning Commission. As you may recall, when the Board of County Commissioners um made the decision, adoption. Uh the if uh of changes in Chapter 200 of the Land Development Code where the Planning Commission replaced the the DRC's duties. and

there was a new composition of the Planning Commission. the uh tur the item regarding terms uh stated that it would be set by resolution. So we are moving forward with a resolution to the Board of County Commissioners to establish terms for Planning Commission members. Those terms will be there will be initial terms and then Um And then basically two year um terms after that time. So the initial terms and we thought amongst ourselves what was the best way to do this and

we did it based on the amount of years that You had been collectively on the Planning Commission, whether it be in the former Planning Commission or in the current Planning Commission. So basically the the the initial terms range between one and three years and then with two two-year terms after the expiration date of those terms. The terms are as follows if you want me to go over those. So um the Mr Chairman and Vice Chairman at this point in time. uh

Chuck Gray and Ken Ryman would have three three year initial three-year term beginning august ninth, twenty eighteen and expiring, which is the first meeting of the new planning commission, and expand expiring august ninth, twenty twenty one. Then with Mr. Pete Hansel and Mr. Jamie Girardi having two-year terms from August 9, 2018 to August 9, 2020, and with Mr. Roberto Sayas and

Mr. Michael Cox, one-year term from August 9, 2018 to August 9th, 2019. The resolution also calls for an annual uh election of a chair and vice chair and that annual election will uh occur on the second planning commission meeting um in august There was something else. That's what was on on the brain. There's other things.

Charles GreyChair

that any of the commissioners can be reappointed if they

Denise

can be that's correct. Uh they're eligible for reappointment no earlier than ninety days prior to the end of their term. Um it they're filled in this they're filled in the same manner as the original appointment. and uh there's some language about if a mem in in the event the Board of County Commissioners fails to reappoint the member, a member, or fails to appoint a new member prior to the end of the term, the Planning Commission member shall continue to serve beyond the expiration date of their term until such time

as a new reappointment or an appointment is made. Um I think that's all. And that will be going to the Board of County Commissioners on February nineteenth um in a couple of weeks.

Jaimie Girardi

And Denise, none of this affects the school board.

Denise

None of this affects the school board member. Good point, David. Absolutely. This does not this the their term their uh their term is determined by the school board, so it does not affect the school board member.

Charles GreyChair

Okay, but do you need a motion?

Denise

No, I don't need a motion. It was just like information uh because I know it has been asked um about in the past and I just wanted to know that we were diligently working on that and it's actually scheduled uh before the board on the nineteenth of February.
