that the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida's said board proclaim is May 14, 2023 as Water Reuse Week. And I'm very proud of what this Commission has done over the years for reuse. It calls upon citizens and businesses to help protect our pressure water resources by practicing water conservation and to use reclaim water in an efficient and effective means. When I was first elected, we didn't have a toilet rebate program. We put that in place with SweatMud, partnered with them, hired a group, and we started out with the private uh
sector first. We've since opened them to the commercial end of it. And I think it's probably very appropriate um that there's a lot of commercial that's out there that has the high flow, high water use toilets that are out there. And I think we should put a push on from the commission from the region to actually go out and start looking at getting Tampa Bay Water and Swift Blend to go, maybe we should step up our uh enhancements, uh our incentives to get the private market
to come forward. Um I think it's imp imperative we actually do that. So Commissioner Oakley.
Well an attempt by war we have We have those same issues that we actually uh people can sign up for and probably get qualified to have some help toward. uh use and reclaim water for their businesses. So and Swift Plan you know has a lot of programs of the same nature to save water. So it's um I had a meeting with Amber yesterday from Swift Mud and also uh we talked about some signage they had put up in some
areas that were using too much water down in the south. Hillsboro County and those uh by people being aware of their water use, they actually had a savings of about thirty percent on the water use after they put the signs up. So uh be something to look into but I'll look further into.
Well as and as you gentlemen both sit on the t on the Tempe Water Board, uh as well as we're looking at your reuse and I think we're doing great and the more attention the better. But I think it's also the just the use itself of water will cut down uh Water usage and it's provides some good benefits for us but down the road too.
In Pasco County we've we've done that very well for reuse water for all homes developments, asking that they uh the developers put in uh those water lines for re reuse and we've done a great job in doing that. Our neighboring counties, I think Pineas is doing some of that also. But Uh there's an issue with pipelines they have to have to uh move some of that water. They got too much reclaim water in the southern part of the county and not enough and you know
not a way to get that additional water up to the northern part of Pineas County. So I think they're gonna be that commission be working on that. Hillsworth County I think needs to uh work harder at at making and providing that or for the developments to be adding on the reclaimed pipes while they're building all those new developments that are gonna be using water. They need to be be putting the reclaimed water in so that's available but 'cause they have a lot of reclaimed water and they need to be using it.
