R62 Planning Commission appointment by Board of County Commissioners

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

Denise

Before you adjourn, David has asked me to talk to you about the appointment by the Board of County Commissioners of the Planning Commission. So that appointment is happening on January twenty-fifth. It's at ten ten in the morning, it's so it's a morning session. It's item R62, it's a regular item. So what will happen is that the Board of County Commissioners will each individually appoint a Planning Commission member. And then there will be a collective appointment of an at-large member. So

the way that the ordinance was written is that that actual appointment does not take effect until the second planning commission in February, and that would be February 17th, 2022, 1:30 in Newport Ritchie. So that means that this Planning Commission, as it is today, will still have a meeting next month, and that's February 3rd, 2022, at 1:30. Yeah.

Charles GreyChair

Okay.

Denise

Anything else you wanted me to add, David?

Jaimie GirardiVice Chair

So just as a reminder, I believe the ordinance was written so that while each board member will appoint a member. they don't necessarily have to be from reside in that District of that. Commissioner Yeager. Um so it is possible that y they could reappoint exactly who's on the planning commission today. I don't know whether that will happen or not, but I guess my other question for you is There was no application window like that.

Denise

That's correct. There's no application window.

Jaimie GirardiVice Chair

Presumably if the board's gonna appoint somebody other than who's here today, they would be doing it just by because they know somebody, is

Denise

that's the way it would be, yes.

There was no

Jaimie GirardiVice Chair

solicitation for other member.

Denise

Correct. Yes.

Jaimie GirardiVice Chair

Okay. I guess the only other comment I'd make is it's there would be nothing to prevent you from Contacting your district commissioner if you wanted to. I mean, that it's not a sunshine law violation if you wanted to. So for those of you that may still have an interest in being on the Planning Commission, you may want to contact your district commissioner. Or any commissioner really you could contact if you want. Um it's really up to you all. If you want to do that. You may not get

rid of us, David. That's Yeah, the only other comment I would make is if If you've got to be a little bit more If the Planning Commission stays the way it is, there's probably no reason to do this, but if it gets If there's a bunch of new members, you all may want to reconsider whether you need to elect a new chair and vice chair. The rules don't necessarily require it, but if it's a whole new group you're probably gonna need wanna revisit that issue too. But let's see what happens with the appointments.

Denise

Yeah, and and of course as you may recall when this came to you when you were sitting as a local planning agency the what the commissioner that appoints the planning commission member individually will serve a concurrent term with that commissioner and then the at large will be a four year term. So but I'm sure you probably remember that from that time.

Charles GreyChair

I don't remember anything.

Don't remember anything.

Okay.

Denise

So that's what I wanted to say and uh you know I will certainly be lighting a candle so that everybody comes stays back on the Planning Commission.

Charles GreyChair

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Denise

Yep, thank you so much.

Charles GreyChair

And we're gonna We're gonna politic and get Dave reappointed too, so I prefer not to vote, thank you.
