FEMA grants for damaged business signs on US 19
What the county recorded
This item is not from the published agenda
This archive found it in the recording: a call to order, a recess, or business the board never listed. The county recorded nothing about it, so everything below is our reading.
The source document
The county’s agenda for Board of County Commissioners, Oct 17, 2017
The published PDF. Its text could not be extracted, because it is an image-only scan, so nothing in it is searchable here. It still reads normally.
The county’s minutes for Board of County Commissioners, Oct 17, 2017
The published PDF, as served by the county. This item is one entry in it.
What was said
Machine transcription of 2m of recording, with speaker names inferred from voice matching. 100% of 12 lines carry a name. It shows what was said, not what was decided, and both the words and the names can be wrong.
So um uh I want to thank all the staff that came to my town hall and um one of the things that was very interesting um came out of the presentation from Israel Perez from FEMA and the and the lady from the SBA and um They said that there are thirty thousand dollar grants available to businesses who had damaged from the hurricane and a lot of our businesses we've cataloged all the signs that were damaged in
the hurricane, at least on 19, I think they did the whole county. And those signs cannot be repaired because they're non-conforming. So they're gonna have to get the new lower signs and I was hoping Kevin was here but um I'm asking the question can those small businesses apply for the FEMA grants for their sign and be reimbursed for sign replacement All across the country. I mean so FEMA program, but I don't know why they couldn't. And I'm sorry Kevin isn't here, but I'd
really like to know that so that we can develop uh something that can go to
those businesses.
There
you go. See so if if our businesses on 19 can get a thirty thousand dollar grant to help get a Signs.
Well they can't fix the ones that are busted through, they can't replace those, apparently. So this is an opportunity to get them federal help clean up that so I'm very excited about that. But they I'm sure they don't know that they can get FEMA help for those signs.
Is that a is that a grant that's you pay back or is it?
I think it's a grant that you don't pay back for. And at first he at one point he said thirty thousand, another point he said thirty-three thousand. So I don't know what the benchmarks are.
That's not through us. Yes. But can somebody investigate for the commissioner?
I'd
really like to know if we can help these guys get their signs fit. Great.
