What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

This archive found it in the recording: a call to order, a recess, or business the board never listed. The county recorded nothing about it, so everything below is our reading.

Good afternoon, Commissioner Shawn McGarvey, Director of Libraries. Uh these are two very simple requests. Uh every year the state legislature funds the state cooperative grants for libraries to a certain dollar amount. Uh we would just like to request that it be fund at 21.4 million. Uh that is an equalization grant for every dollar and eighty two cents that the library's operational budget spends. That grant is then divvied out between all the

counties and given. That money is then spent specifically to uh enhance patron services, books, Materials, items within the library. It can be used on staffing costs, but this county already covers those things, so we use it to supplement our collection. The second request is that we will be putting in a request for the Wesley Chapel Branch Library for the maximum amount of the state aid for libraries construction grant at $500,000. The last

grant we put in was for the Starkey Ranch TLC which was funded in twenty nineteen-twenty twenty at the full amount of five hundred thousand. Uh they have not granted any requests since, but we were hoping that we could advocate for that to put money in the pot in the ranked programs and we could be one of them.

Jack Mariano

It's gonna be good.

Unidentified speakerVoice C

Very

Jack Mariano

simple. Did um so in Starkey when we got that five hundred grand, when you say we haven't uh I don't know if you said we haven't applied for anything more? But others have?

Unidentified speakerVoice C

We have not applied for anything more. Wesley Chapel is the newest library we've constructed since Starkey Ranch. This will be our first application since Starkey Ranch, sorry. But I mean other counties have done it. Oh absolutely, sir. There's uh fourteen to fifteen libraries on that list. Okay.

Mike Carballa

Sean just wants to ensure that we're matching what the feds are giving us where they can look on the tables and say.

Unidentified speakerVoice C

Okay.

Jack Mariano

Commissioner Starkey you have that big list with all the different things.

Kathryn Starkey

I do.

Jack Mariano

I'm fixing it. Yeah, so she was talking about like nonprofits, like friends of the library.

Kathryn Starkey

They can

Jack Mariano

go after different grants or whatever.

Kathryn Starkey

I talked to Sean about this yesterday. But but when we're when we're done with these, I will bring this up. So I'm fixing these.
