Kathryn StarkeyVice Chair

Yes, sir. I've got the third resolution. Um, is anyone here for uh Moffitt Cancer Center? If you would please um come to the podium. Thank you.

Okay. Resolution number 21-264, a resolution by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida, commending Moffitt Cancer Center and recognizing August 1st as World Lung Cancer Day. Whereas world lung I'm sorry, whereas lung cancer is a global concern, the World Health Organization has reported that lung cancer is responsible for nearly one in five cancer deaths, 20%, across the globe. August first is recognized as World

Age. Most diagnosis are among adults 65 or older. Family history, radiation at the chest area, and lung disease, i.e., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. to decrease health disparities including access to free tobacco treatment and smoking cessation counseling and free annual low-dose CT lung screenings to eligible individuals. Now therefore be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida, in session duly assembled, that said board hereby commends Moffitt Cancer Center and recognizes August 1st as World Lung Cancer Day to bring awareness to the severity of lung cancer and to encourage participation in low-dose CT screening

and voluntarily and voluntary activities to support tobacco cessation. Dun and resolved in regular session with a quorum president voting this 24th day of August 2021.

Move to approve.

Second.

Ron OakleyChair

Got a motion of second. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Motion pass 5-0. Welcome.

Christina Fitzpatrick

Uh Mr. Chairman Mariano. This resolution is all about lung cancer treatment and prevention. It's so important that we recognize lung cancer treatment and prevention as anyone can be diagnosed with lung cancer, whether they're smoking and those who do not smoke, or if they have been exposed to environmental factors. I would like to also say thank you to Moffitt for moving to Pasco County and providing our citizens with our super your superior service. So thank you.

Kathryn StarkeyVice Chair

Um I I didn't want to say that's a That's not a good um place I want to be where we're the number one county for smoking. So I think we need some kind of public public awareness program.

Christina Fitzpatrick

So we have tobacco free Florida, so I have met I've spoken to them yesterday, so I'm looking forward to being more involved with their board as well.

Kathryn StarkeyVice Chair

Excellent. Yeah.

Thank you so much. On behalf of Moffitt Cancer Center and the lung cancer community, we sincerely thank Pasco County for approving this proclamation and its sponsorship and joining in the effort of raising lung cancer awareness. As the proclamation stated, lung cancer screening is extremely underutilized. In fact, in Florida, only 3.2% of individuals considered high risk for developing lung cancer will receive their annual screening. That number really just shows the huge opportunity that we have as a community to raise awareness and how valuable this proclamation

is and raising awareness to Pasco County members. So thank you.

Kathryn StarkeyVice Chair
