veterans housing and workforce training programs

Um so November fourth, uh Newport Russie Rotary has got a uh an event for uh veterans that we've done for the past Eight, ten years. It's been a while ago. And we take veterans first time in, we give a nice slack, etc. There's a form we can fill out. Nikki and I both have them. Uh and we honor the veterans, have a nice lunch from. There's the fire that's right there. And uh we will bring bring in Fritz. Fritz is 101

3:07:29years old. And by the way, Kathy I want to give you a shout out for the team. So Fritz is the gentleman that had a little bit of water in. We kind of cleaned out his house. Uh we had the Better Futures group come forward. We had our own group come forward with the veterans. And uh they came in, they talked with him, got his history and found out that he should have been paid a lot more money. Uh gave him a check for some uh behind him, I'm not gonna mention any numbers. And then even his pension has now gone higher, so he's living much more comfortably. Oh,

3:07:59that's awesome. And for the veterans team What a great job they did. This Pitcher Fritz right there with his daughter was awesome. Um But that team just really took care of him and he was like him and his brother was passed away at ninety-eight years old. They were living together, sharing the bills, and all of a sudden now he's all taken all the bills. And what your veterans group did was phenomenal. You know, great great things are happening there. And I'll tell you there's another veterans group too that we were working with, um with Chuck Lane. Uh these people had their home taken

3:08:29down. Um they were told to take it down. Hindsight maybe they didn't need to. We just worked it through and they just got the keys to the house last week. Uh the Sterzingas they were at one of the one of the meetings we had and just like, you know, it felt so bad for them, but they are now in a brand new module home, elevated up in great shape. And they are absolutely thrilled. So our team, Chuck and all was did did a phenomenal thing there. And then I made a little tip um to the Hope Services Group. Has everyone been there? Anyone been everyone been

3:08:59there? Yeah. I'd say first time I've been there, I don't know if someone mentioned to me to go there, right? Yes. So yeah, not my district, but um I tell you they are working all over the region. Uh a phenomenal group. And it's not your district? No. It's on Forty One.

3:09:19So I mean Congress Block has helped them acknowledge them for several different things they've done, different people that have founded it, uh uh n uh neighborhood news has done stuff, li uh Wesley Chapel, the Laker. A lot of a lot of activity to what they've done in the area and uh it's been phenomenal. And one of their activities they do is they'll train people for like construction work. Yep. So plumbers, they're gonna get uh let's say Carpenters, which is really needed. They'll take some people that maybe their job skill can help them do

3:09:49a a supermarket job. They teach them how to work that, how to work the scanners, how to go through. Room rooms as far as cleaning rooms for rent for hotels that show them how to do all that type of work. This one here is in the construction part. Keep flipping through this a couple of things. They give them certifications on these trainings. Now, the great thing about the certifications that they're gonna get here, it puts them into a very high-paying job right off the bat and fills needs like we know we need across the board. So the construction thing is uh set

3:10:20up and donated. There's a mini kitchen that goes in there too. They're now actually getting bought the uh place up in Hudson of 52 and 19, the old uh credit union building. They're now building a larger kitchen, larger facilities. They're gonna work with the nurses to help them train as well. So what they've done is some robotic stuff that they're they're going through. It's pretty cool. Um so all they're doing is they've training our people to high-end jobs. And the reason they elevated their thing, it wasn't just like a like a you know day job type thing. They give them a skill that can pay

3:10:50them very well, like an AM skills does for manufacturing, they just do it for other things as well. But it's a great Great great group and uh David Engel, whatever we can do to to to work with these people, they are helping train, and maybe even Chuck Lane can help too. Um just a phenomenal group that was out there.

3:11:06Commissioner I went to them a couple years ago and and I do know this is the one on 41. Um if you travel further north, there's another one and it's Hope Youth Rant. I think it's called the

3:11:19kind of public.

3:11:20And and they also do workforce training for special needs people.

3:11:26Very special groups in our county that I'm gonna be putting on a national call. Um and and and Vincent House is also doing a course training for mental illness people with mental illness. So it's wonderful.
