Moffitt Cancer Center Spiros FL update

Weightman Either Doctor Who, uh You know, just incredibly grateful of all the places you all landed. You landed close to home and landed in Pasco. Half of what you said went way over my head uh as far as the medical ease of what you're talking about. But just incredibly grateful that Moffat's here and to Speaker Moffat who really kicked off, you know, what Moffat Cancer Center has become today. And very grateful for your partnership and having USF in our Backyard and um just excited to see what the future holds, not just for employment and economic benefit and national and international notoriety but for the lives of of uh you know, folks of all ages that we might be able to save and uh, you know, see what their futures might be able to do, uh, because they had an opportunity to live. So thank you for all of your work. You know, what you're doing, uh you know, you're gonna gonna bless generations to come. So thank you.

Weightman All right, here we go. Some fun. Fun things. Uh first Chairman I can't thank you enough for your appointment to Tampa Bay Water. And thanks to Chair Oakley for the warm welcome. to that board. It felt good to be there and thank you Commissioner Starkey for the kind words that were relayed ahead of time to folks. And so we had a we had a nice, nice first meeting and You know, talk to regional water supply, South Hillsburg County and what that means. So Large looming projects out there and uh Cherokee does a great job at the helm, so it's exciting that we have a Pasco Pasco Chairman. Uh be remiss if you're not sure. Didn't mention Moffitt. Pretty neat pretty unique day for our county. Um long time coming and I think Commissioner Bradford's gonna have quite a bit of fun over there. uh the new star of the show. uh coming in. Uh next I'd like to thank the board and and staff for their indulgence uh while I was online out sick on the on

Oakley and Weightman reports on county business

Weightman Coming a long way. It uh Pasco has seemingly become a medical hugby with Moffitt coming in and these new hospitals. So it's it's it's really nice to see these significant businesses coming in to help create a good quality life for us. Next up, the follow-up on conversation last week with the Wesley Chapel District Park and Soccer Field. and everything associated with that. No Parks is working with uh West Chapel Athletic Association and the other entity that's looking to to take advantage of those of those those fields. I think they're coming to an agreeable solution in the current Uh kind of delegation of authority is to have the parks director sign the agreement, but I'd like to to make a motion to move that over to the county administrator's office and let the county administrator broker that deal in his office directly. I think it's it's just better that we we we start looking at this. situation from a more of a procurement perspective because it's a it's a significant county asset and we need to make sure that we're managing that county asset for the best interests of our community. When you have big

R thirty three quarter two Pasco EDC metric report

Weightman So Something I think we need to There's always emphasis on this, but I think we need to renew emphasis. So Florida's unemployment rate is up four point six percent. And unemployment has increased a point year over year from February uh twenty-five to February twenty-six. Particularly as it pertains to Pasco. Uh the rooftops are here. There's no question about that. Um What? Can we do within our role of government and working in a public-private partnership? to re-emphasize to folks to capture their job and their obligation, the existing obligations, Connecticut City. Jobs that were committed there. Moffitt jobs that were committed from it. Do we need to go back in and and and recalibrate or have a a conversation with the stakeholders that have committed X amount of jobs based on the evolution of AI? That way we understand what is what was committed and what's actual based on today's market. Um that way we know okay what we might be losing today today. I mean Amazon's close to opening. Um I suspect that they'll probably Probably be more digital than what they probably initially committed, uh, and so on and so forth. So I I think it's important that we if if a business that we've we've uh incentivized to come here that we just touch
