Uh in section six D Article seven of the Florida Constitution. and section one hundred ninety six point zero seven five to A. Florida statutes for an exemption to their property assessed value of fifty thousand dollars for persons sixty five

1:10:42or older Who own their home It is their permanent residence and their adjusted household income does not exceed thirty-five thousand one hundred and sixty-seven dollars for the twenty twenty-three Tax year. Um No funding is required. County Administrator has estimated the fiscal impact of adopting the additional homestead exemption is approximately three million dollars to the general fund

The Area Agency on Aging of Pasco Pinellas supports the adoption of P 72, the ordinance that will provide an additional $50,000 to the current homestead exemption for those over 65. We commend the Board of County Commissioners and the property appraiser and your teams for this bold and necessary recommendation, which must be adopted. As the coordinating planning and funding body for all government, home, and community-based services, the Area Agency on Aging knows

1:12:49too well the struggles that seniors are facing right now, right here in Pasco County with the high cost of living. According to the 2020 census, the population of Pasco is now 561,891 individuals. Of which 170,768 are over the age of eighty sixty. Sixty. That's thirty one percent of our population. Of this number, 22,000 are homeowners who are cost burdened, which means

1:13:19they are paying more than 30% of their income and housing costs and have an income below 50% of the area median income. By passing this ordinance, many thousands of seniors may be helped to pay less in property taxes and ensure that Pasco County continues to be a place where families want to move to and live here throughout their golden years.
