P34 is an ordinance by the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners repealing ordinance number 2547 that established established a municipal service taxing unit for law enforcement in the unincorporated area of Pasco County, Florida, providing for the repealer. I won't read the rest. So long story short, we've been doing some work since November. When the ordinance got established to figure out the specific mechanisms of the MSTU and there was some MILCAP

4:30issues and limitations with city participation. So now we're back with you in conjunction with the Sheriff's Office to repeal that ordinance. And so we are recommending that we waive the introduction of the ordinance, hold a public hearing, accept public comment, adopt the ordinance, repealing ordinance number 2547. Mm-hmm. Um And by roll call vote, authorize the chair to execute the one original ordinance provided and direct board records to file a copy of the ordinance with the Department of the State. Any

5:12It's a difficult one because we're going to have to do something. The current formula that we use today of forty percent, when you look at the budget project projections. getting closer to twenty thirty, in my opinion, are not sustainable. The volume of money that will be going here will be hitting will be bumping into twenty million dollars a year increases for the department. No department in government sees increases like that and it's gonna further handcuff our ability to do the

5:42other works that we're tasked with. So I just think it's important that everybody keep an open mind and we still work together to find a funding solution to fund. Uh The sheriff's office. And uh but I don't think long term That the forty percent model is sustainable. So I just share that that way. I'm hopeful that everybody's brainstorming and that way we figure out how to keep, you know, our Sheriff's Deputies safe and funded and they have all the tools they need and

6:12we can recruit deputies and all, but We have to find a different formula to use that works. Four Everything that we're obligated to pay for.

6:25I agree. I think this is just probably an an opportune time to try to put this together with everything else going with the legislature as well. Um changes coming up in the Sheriff's Office may give us some alternatives that

As Amy noted, we have been working very closely with her and her team on this. We appreciate the board's discussion on this. Uh it was certainly something that the Sheriff Off the Sheriff's Office was fully in support of. But um understanding from talking to County Administrator and in the cities that uh this point the the path forward is does not look possible due to some of those millage caps and things like that. But we are certainly committed to this. We're committed to finding a better funding stream that that works for everyone, you know, keeps

7:16keeps our folks safe, keeps our budget uh growing as our community grows, um, but also allows you guys the the flexibility to to do what you need. But but we're fully in support of uh some funding mechanism, but we also are are supportive and understand the uh the repeal of this today.
