Veterans Village neighborhood roads and drains
What the county recorded
This item is not from the published agenda
It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

So um This is a good time if any of you have phones. I'm sure most of you do. Please put 'em on the silent position or turn 'em off. Mm-hmm. And before we start the regular meeting and and this is an opportunity if anybody's here to talk about anything that's not on today's agenda, that's not listed on the agenda. Uh Please uh let us know and this would be your opportunity to come forward and ask a question. Is there anybody that has anything to speak to that's not on today's agenda?
Yeah.
Right in your hands, sir. Come forward.
When it gets up here we'll swear everybody to one time. Adam Secretary Damney.
We'll need to swear you in, we'll need to get your name and address, please.
Sorry. And anybody who else is gonna speak today, this would be an opportunity to stand and raise your right hand.
Do you swear or affirm the testimony you're about to give is a true to help you God?
Yes.
Thank you.
Okay. Thank you. Your name and address, sir?
My name is Henry A. Burnt. I live in uh [address removed].
I brought pictures and stuff. Okay, what's the topic that you want to discuss? Okay, and that is Veterans Village? Yes. Okay.
Uh this neighborhood was dedicated from a US senator back in nineteen seventy-six. We moved in in nineteen eighty. I moved in with my parents. This neighborhood was gorgeous. The road Seven Springs stopped at Pream Ranch. Sometime around eighty three, eighty four I think, we can't even find, they opened it all the way to Eastley. And now that road is parallel at 19. And it gets used and abused. I've called the county for
hey, can you take care of this? Well the Audubon Society owns that. I call the Audubon Society. No, the County takes care of that. I can't get anybody to help me. I got I don't know if she's putting the pictures up. We got roads to drains. to the the the the drain that drains the road to the lakes. The drain itself is not a drain, it's crumbled, it's gone. So how can you get water to the drain, to the lake? The road floods all the time. Certain roads have never been flooding for forty years. Forty I've been in
that neighborhood since nineteen eighty. Now I own a home in there. I raised two kids, eight grandkids. And I call. Most people don't even know where we are. You Google it. The front part of the neighborhood. Matter of fact, if you look on uh Mike Olson, tax collector, the first road has a whole nother name of a neighborhood. The back part of the neighborhood has a whole nother name. But the name is not for the whole neighborhood. There's no veterans village. They just deleted it. Since they opened that road and so many cars come through
there. Just the other day I've taken pictures, I looked, the one island up front's got a gaping hole in it. I'm like, what the heck? Somebody hit a light pole. I'm looking. How they hit the light pole? They came in the neighborhood the wrong way. Drunk, probably. We've had houses hit. We've had people hit head on in 25 to 30 mile an hour zone, head on and die. We had one tree where six or seven people hit that tree. And died because they're going too fast. It's a running joke through the whole
county. Oh, the zigzags of Vetch Village, it's fun. I had twenty eight news out there. They looked up and They got tickets. Well they three sheets of warnings. not violations, warnings. And the top one, how do you give out a person a warning for seventy-five miles an hour in a thirty mile an hour zone. How does that happen?
We've had drunks hit houses. Oh, and the funny thing is, the islands where they have trees and stuff, they have curbs. But the sidewalk where pedestrians walk, no curve, the car could come right up and hit you. There's nothing to deter the car back. and the grass is only that far. And the cars are going by you 50 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone. It's a neighborhood. There's nothing indicating out front but a little dinky sign. I asked them to put a sign out front. Residential neighborhood, they put one this big. Nobody
even looks at it. They put a flashing light in. I could sit at that flashing light. I could show you video. Twenty cars go by, one car is doing 30. Every other car is doing 45-50 and the light goes off because they're going too fast. And that's county workers, that's even police officers. Everybody just speeds through that neighborhood.
All right. Well let me ask the uh staff, um, do we have anybody online or here that can respond to that or we can put him in touch with?
There's no one currently. uh here that can assist this gentleman but we will definitely get his information and um refer him to our public infrastructure team.
Can ca I had a special meeting with Kathy Starkey. About this. She showed up late. She walked in and even said she forgot she even had the meeting. and then proceeded to not have any information on what I was talking about. Didn't even know what road I was talking about until I had explained it to her.
Okay.
And
I
sent her email after email after me mail all the things I had complained with. She shows up to the meeting Doesn't know what I'm talking about and then gets out and walks out on me in the meeting.
Okay, well I think what we need to do is get you to the person that's responsible for that area.
Yeah,
so Mr.
Chair Kelly Funk with uh County Administrator is right behind the gentleman and she'll get his information.
Sure, can you also? We got to meet.
All right. Thank you for coming. Good luck. I hope we can solve that problem for you. I'll probably be back to the next one. Okay. Well you're you're always welcome.
Well one time in thirty years isn't too bad.
Oh I think it's important.
Okay.
And then never think you're going to be able to do that.
Okay. Um,
Take it away.
I wasn't sure whether anyone else was here for public comment.
No, I asked. They said it I didn't see anybody.
