Um, just want to touch base and let you know, you know, why I wanna speak today is to explain the process, how we wanna be involved and you know, talking to our county commissioners, you know, about the important role you all play and how the Sheriff's Office can be incorporated into it. And so, you know, we're very fortunate that Commissioner Moore uh brought it up and but with Commissioner Starkey in her wisdom, you know was asking that we be on the pre app review process, which we are. Um, you know, we look forward to working with Denise,

6:11Sally, and even everybody. So the big you know kids ground, you know, as we're blessed, the Pasco is growing. Our concern is, you know, that the service also has a role because we think there's a if we can get on the beginning of the process we're much better off five ten systems is that the so when the commercial properties come in the commercial property's been fantastic we don't really have much of a concern because there isn't uh too many law enforcement issues that are associated with it. But when residential properties Well something. You

6:42know, the things that we could have done years ago, you know, we wouldn't be in a situation winner now. And so what we ask is being part of this process, we can you know, provide some insight, you know, and big one is traffic calming. You know, traffic calming devices. in when residents are being developed or using some other uh security or environmental protection, you know, that will stay in the long run. So that's why we're gonna be engaged in this process. Uh we know that, you know, right now there's discussion about

7:12two or a couple very large developments coming in on State Road fifty two uh by our so you know that's where we want to be involved in the processes as that is moving forward because those residents play a huge component to it. I I I don't want to speak on behalf of fire rescue, but I know what the fire I just saw a couple fire trucks going. I know they pulled fire trucks from across the county. Well you know the sheriff's office the residential properties are the same way. They use a lot of Um so that's why as we're planning,

7:43as we're developing them, I just want to put that on the radar that, you know, approving and as we go through the residential process for properties, the walls were the safety components should be a huge part because What we don't want is communities that are developed and look great. aren't as things that exist for the future cause issues. So again I want to put the board that some of those developments are coming on board as we're seeing on state road fifty two or anywhere in the city just set in mind that for the sheriff's office we want to be involved now

8:13because we want to keep those

8:16Sure. And we don't want them to decrease after everybody's done a hard job and a great job trying to get them here. So thank you all very much.

8:34No, no action is is to be taken. I think the sheriff's intent and and please um Sheriff Knockle was just to provide clarification to the Planning Commission.

9:46Well, where are we with this process? I had heard that the uh county commissioners had Uhled it for a short period of time. Has this moved forward?

10:00process of bringing a deputy or a person from the sheriff's office on board to the can you want to

10:06speak to that? Sure, absolutely. Yes. I can I can speak to that in the best of possibly the best way I possibly can and uh perhaps my colleagues can jump in if that's okay. So basically, what was determined at that board meeting is that there will not be a deputy on the Planning Commission, but that from that moment, moving forward, the Sheriff's Office would be fully involved in pre-application meetings, and also all applications for development would be sent directly to the sheriff's office. And we did find a representative

10:36in Captain Sanborn. So Captain Sanborn is going to receive all the applications for development activity. And Captain Sanborn is also going to receive all the requests for pre-application meetings. And what he would do in turn is that he would review them and do a triage and determine whether it is an application that sheriff's office wants to sit through the pre-application meeting on.

11:07Okay, well that's good. That'll that'll be a good way to get them involved then. Great. That answer your question, Pete?

11:14Well, no, not really.

11:17I had I had to proposed this many years ago, this concept of having someone of the Sheriff's Department, the law enforcement person on the board when we're the old board, not the current process we're in now. I I personally think the idea has merit. We have a school board official here that we can turn to and ask him specific questions that are related to development within the community. Yeah. regarding schools. And I think having a law enforcement officer uh has his Very positive aspect is you can turn

11:47to him and say, hey, look, there's going to be a housing development here. There's going to be a certain kind of business going in in this location. You know, what is the statistical analysis that's that could the Department of Justice sends out a very thick booklet on crime within communities. And based on the information that they have, that is the sheriff's office, based on Information to get from the Department of Justice, they can feed us or guide us into a particular area. For instance, apartment complexes, which I which I brought up some time back.

12:18There's a tendency for certain crimes to be committed. I I know I'm taking too much time and I'll be brief now, but I think that they have the ability to provide us and guide us with some type of uh Oh. concepts on what may occur within a a development of some type, whether it's housing, commercial, or uh

12:42Uh I don't want to say of uh high density. That's the word I'm trying to find high density. That's all I'm saying. So I think the idea has merit to have somebody like we do with the school board. So that's that's my opinion on it.

12:54And that was presented to the board of county commissioners and the board of county commissioners did not vote to to do that.

13:01understand, but I Yeah, but uh what you did do was you decided to bring them in on the early stages. uh where you can actually sit down and And discuss it with them during the application process, right? And they'll have input.

13:16That's accurate. Yes, correct.

13:18In some ways they'd actually have more input. using that method than they would if they were just on this board and didn't have any other involvement. So, you know, I think uh What your concerns are, Peter. I think we're good ones and I think maybe they are have been addressed because they just did it a little different way.
