Bear Creek flood map revision, Tower Drive, Hudson Beach

It's been a great boon for All of Pasco County. So great job with that. Um I'd like to say uh Adam Thomas is doing a great job doing all the research to find out all the boat stuff. They had a person at the Hudson. boat ramp on uh at least a couple of days I was there. So I'm sure she was there every day and uh she was really checking out everybody that was there, finding out why they were there, what they were eating, et cetera. So uh I know we'll have

53:59some good data from Adam coming up on his team on the research. Um is Mike Carbella out there?

54:06Mike, if you'd if you'd come forward, I want to just kind of give you a little praise, so don't get scared. Um, but I want to just kind of talk about something and uh Uh Commissioner Oakley, when you were just campaigning a f a few years ago, we had a uh big issue at Bear Creek. I was I was downstream at uh Beaconwoods Drive on the on the Bear Creek Channel that goes out to the Gulf and I found water levels were r were going down and because you were out in the field over in uh Griffin Park, we found out the water levels were actually rising there. And that helped the stormwater

54:37team kind of like free up a lot of issues that were out there. And uh I'm gonna tell you it's it's really helped that whole area. And I wanna say, uh, Mike, for you, for your team. Uh I'm I'm really impressed with the people that you put in position to actually do things and let let that information come from the field and come up with solutions. Uh Donald Carey the other day called me up, sent me an email over about Bear Creek. We've got a whole bunch of people in the flood uh map floodplain out there that he thinks we can take out. And uh he sent me the map. And I

55:07think, Jordan, can you pull that up? Um The map's kinda tough to read, but I'll just say that's how much detail he put into this. So we have a chance to help a lot of homes in that Bear Creek area. Um That would be phenomenal if if if the board would just kind of make work work with Don Kerry to kind of go with staff. There's a lot of homes that are on that whole blue area that I think can come out and save those people a whole bunch of money insurance. So I just I wanna alert the board, thank Don Kerry,

55:37thank Mike Carbella for letting Don Kerry do this type of thing. And if we could, uh Mike, I do I need to make a motion to kind of make an effort for us to go kind of look at doing a Bud initiated uh flood map revision to take these people out of the floodplain?

55:53So I'm not entirely familiar with all of the details, obviously, but uh we we certainly would prefer to probably bring something back that's a little more comprehensive. Um but uh yeah the team the team has done an amazing job leaning forward and taking care of these things. We're very proud of them. And uh I I will certainly come back uh next meeting too with with some information on that.

56:13Okay. And while you while you're there, I just want to go over a couple other things stormwater related. Uh Tower Drive, there's a recently a a craft brewery that just opened up and they're seeing the flooding issues that didn't get experienced so much from the people before because there's not many people there. But the I think there's an easy fix down there. I know they're working on that. Uh Sea Pines, I want to say they did a phenomenal job cleaning out a Gulf Drive. And old Dixie, I think I compliment you on that. Um so that that was work. That is working out well up there. And um Uh one other thing. Talking about um

56:44the scalloping season, boater access, et cetera. Um Some local residents, I mentioned, I think last meeting about doing a seawall around Hudson Beach, putting a jetty out in front, would actually leave for about 20 boats for Marina with people to actually park their boat, walk across the jetty, get to the restaurants on Hudson Beach, and there's even a potential for mooring that's out there. Um so Mike, I talked with Keith Wiley yesterday. Uh he wants to kind of work with you, myself, et cetera. and bring something back in a couple of weeks uh we can actually

57:14bring to the board to take a look. Uh the benefits of what it does for Hudson Area, creating a beach with deep water swimming right in the Gulf of Mexico. Every resident I've talked to is thrilled. Pretty much every business I've talked to has been thrilled with as well. One I just got to kind of talk a little bit more with it. But I think bringing that forward could be something we could even have it ready for possibly next year scalloping season to to have those extra fill uh facilities amenities. And I think that would really help uh You know, West Pasco take a take a big step forward with a great amenity. So I appreciate all your
