2:47:00Pasco County, waterways and wildlife depend on you to keep them healthy. Excess fertilizer, grass clippings, trash, oils, and pet waste wash into gutters and storm drains when it rains. Stormwater carries these pollutants directly into our lakes and rivers, creating an unhealthy environment for fish, waterfowl, and other aquatic animals. Storm drains are meant for clean rainwater. Most other discharges are illegal. If you suspect an illicit discharge, please contact Pasco County Department of Public Works at seven two seven eight three four three six one one.

2:47:46Hey everyone, I'm Ryan Hughes, Public Information Officer for Pasco County. We get a lot of questions about our recycling program like what to do with everyday items like this little thing. Well, let me walk you through it. The same company that picks up your trash also picks up your recycling. Once those items are collected, the reusable materials go on a long journey from your home or office to Pasco County's recycling transfer facility.

2:48:17Everything that's recycled ends up right here in this huge pile. Our county facility accepts recycling from all over the county before we send it to a private material recovery facility in Pinellas. Then sophisticated machines go through every bit of recycling and sort it into the right spot. From there, it's off to other facilities where it's broken down and eventually made into something new like this.

2:48:54In Pasco County, if you pay for curbside trash service, weekly recycling is included. Just contact your hauler for a pickup schedule or order a recycling cart. 2:49:24Purely and simply it it's we're overcrowded the facility, right? We can't just go and put a no-vacancy sign up, right? We we have to house house these folks.

2:49:33The expansion is going to allow us an opportunity to better classify our inmate population. So with that, it's going to improve the safety of our staff.

2:49:47This is a great win for our corrections officers. As we move into modern policing, this this facility will be a fantastic and modern workplace for our corrections officers. And hopefully it gives them a new clean safe environment to work in.

2:50:01There's gonna be better visitation where people can do it remotely, safely, uh taking a lot of stress and strain off the system as well. So for our prison population. Which has been expanding, uh w it it lets us take care of it with that way. And uh the voters spoke very clearly in 2018. We put in the referendum, they voted for it, they want to see it happen, so we think it's gonna be a great benefit for Pasco County.

2:50:24Being that it's a jail facility, it's in a s it's next to an existing jail facility that's in operation, there's some additional challenges with keeping that building up and uh working. Uh everything has to still maintain. uh the functionality. The kitchen still has to run even though we're putting a new kitchen in, the laundry still has to operate, even though we're moving to uh new laundry facilities.

2:50:43One, we wanted to enhance the vocational opportunities for our our current inmate populations. Secondly, we wanted to look at increasing our opportunity to provide programs to our inmate population. And lastly, we looked at improving opportunities for the inmates who have medical conditions and mental health uh conditions.

2:51:13This is a big project, very exciting, large project. We've assembled an A plus team. We're very excited about

2:51:19what we're going to deliver over the next couple years. Our team is up to the challenge. I appreciate the hard work and the professionalism of the complete design build team and our partners there and the team members through corrections. This is truly a heavy lift for the organization, but in the end that juice will be worth a squeeze.

2:53:02So I have had veterans that that came in with five dollars in their bank account and once their claims get approved now they're getting a monthly tax-free benefit of over $3,000 a month. That's

2:53:13Sometimes we can do it over the phone, we can do it over video, but it's m it it feels more personable when you're sitting there across from someone who probably lived the same life you lived and they it's more under and it's more understanding to your needs and your wants.
