Commissioner Oakley Travelers Rest 50th anniversary

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

And thanks for the pie. Um okay now we're on to uh commissioner's items. Commissioner Oakley. Oh.

Ron Oakley

Uh I have a couple items. Um Saturday I was um the guest of the Travelers Rest and they celebrated their fifty years has been a travel park here in the community. They started in 1972. Uh there's roughly fifteen hundred homes or more. It's actually an and a lot of you don't see it because out in the rural area there uh on the west side of uh Inter Street 75 from uh 41, County Road 41.

And they are very happy to be a part of our community and we're happy to have them as a part. It's it's like a city of its own. It's a community 'cause it has their own fire station. They have their own sheriff's deputy. They have uh their manager which they consider their city manager. And uh then they have their board and So many uh people they recognized the other day, um twenty-eight years of giving for different social activities, people working toward that during

that fifty years, twenty-eight years being a part of that, and others uh just being leaders in their own community and learn how to live with each other and be with each other and they're very happy and they're happy to be a part of the county and we work my office works very well with them and uh we've been able to help them through some issues of permitting and things like that. So it was a great visit. So it but it's happened on Saturday. So 50 years in our community. And then the other thing um
