County Administrator MPO roundtable and TMA update

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

County Administrator Mike. Just one quick thing. I know the board uh was was speaking earlier about the MPO item. So tri-county roundtable. Uh you approved this. Uh uh this is coming up on June 5th. That is a Friday. It'll be at the Sky Center down at the Tampa International Airport again. The agenda does include discussions of the regional MPO, so that will be a topic of discussion with all board members present, uh, as well as uh conversations. Uh surrounding the Florida legislature, uh any updates there, as well as future meeting dates, how we want to have these things, as well as any issues

of regional importance that commissioners want to bring up to for for future discussion. But I wanted to put that back on your radar, make sure that you know that we are still doing these. Um and MPO is still the hot topic uh that we'll we'll be covering.

Jack MarianoChair

Uh Mike, one of the things I want to make sure we talked at the last TMA meeting was I Had brought up at the MPO, our MPO, about working with Hart, which was on a slideshow, to trying to get a Bus rapid or bus transit down to the airport, possibly to the port. And uh we're supposed to set up meetings and meetings didn't get set up. I still haven't had the meetings set up yet, even after that meeting. So uh I want to make sure that's an agenda item that's listed because both the Port Authority and

the Airport Authority said they would be happy to meet with us to talk about it, to try to make it happen, because that dead area in the Florida turnpike, north of um or south of Ridge Road, or where the the the the old toll booths are, is a lot of acres that could be used much more effectively than what they're thinking about. And uh th they both seem supportive to it. And frankly, if we do get to where the rays come down there, they're gonna want to have that especially.

David Engel

Yeah.

Jack MarianoChair

So that could be a mu d have a lot of use of so I wanna make sure that is on the agenda listed so we can have that conversation.

Mike Carballa

Well so typically we we formulate that agenda by consensus, but you can be free to bring it up and I'll I'll discuss it with Yeah, I want more than that. And

Kathryn Starkey

I think that's not meeting

Jack MarianoChair

and I'm sure they will be, but again They were supportive to have the meeting, so if it's on the agenda, I guarantee you we're probably gonna get that meeting as opposed to not. So I want to make sure it's in print that we're gonna talk about it. Okay. Mr. Starkin.

Kathryn Starkey

I had o I had when I found I'd already had plans to be out of town when that date came through, but I plan to um get up and I will be participating through the whole thing virtually. Last time I had another meeting and then I had to jump on. Um but I will be participating virtually. I wanna make sure the other commissioners are planning on going. Can I hear who's going? Who's got it on their calendar? I'm out of town.

Seth WeightmanVice Chair

Uh I think so, Mike.

Kathryn Starkey

Are you gonna participate virtually? No.

Seth WeightmanVice Chair

It's fifth, right? June fifth?

Mike Carballa

I'm sorry,

I'm not sure if you're

on it there. So June fifth, yeah, June fifth is the uh planning on being there.

Jack MarianoChair

I plan I plan to be there. I just want to make sure my agenda's gonna be there.

Mike Carballa

We're we're discussing it now.

Kathryn Starkey

Okay. All right. So if we have four or five, that's a good showing. Yeah.

Sure.

Seth WeightmanVice Chair

Uh Commissioner

Should we bring up the the D O T thing depending on how Hillsboro and City tempted due this week. depending on your answers or your conversation with with The D O T secretary? Yeah, let's play it by here. It's important.

Mike Carballa

It's important

Seth WeightmanVice Chair

though. I

Mike Carballa

agree.

Unidentified speakerVoice A

That's it.

Jack MarianoChair

Okay. Anything else, Ms. Cabella? Yes. Okay. County Attorney.

Unidentified speakerVoice A

I don't have anything for you today, Mad Clark.

Ron Oakley

I don't either.

Unidentified speakerVoice A

Well

Kathryn Starkey

um

Ron Oakley

can I ask a pike

Kathryn Starkey

a question?

Unidentified speakerVoice A

Uh

Jack MarianoChair

Commissioner Starkey?

Kathryn Starkey

Um on at the T M A they now say if you're not there you can't vote but I think you can discuss. And we don't vote at this. But if you're if you're online can you discuss can you

Mike Carballa

Of course. I think we can provided the technology there for two way two way communication, I I don't I don't see why we we wouldn't be able to handle that. Okay.
