Public comment on Leisure Beach dredging

What the county recorded

This item is not from the published agenda

It is a stretch of the recording that this archive identified as a separate matter — a call to order, a recess, or something taken up that the agenda does not list. There is no official title, no staff recommendation and no disposition, because the county never recorded one. Everything below is inferred.

Starkey. Here. Now is the time for public comment. Citizens are given an opportunity to comment on any current or future agenda items coming before the board and on other business under the board's purview. Today's public comment will be handled as follows. First, we will take public comment from those who are here in person. Then we will take public comment from those who have pre-registered for a WebEx link and are currently in the queue.

We request that when you address the board, comments are not directed personally against the commissioner or team member, but rather directed at the issues. This provides mutual respect between board members and the public. After stating your name and address for the clerk, a three minute timer will be activated. After two minutes, a single beep will indicate you have one minute left.

When your time is up, two beeps will sound and you should close your comments. WebEx participants will be disconnected automatically when their time is up. Madam Clerk, do we have anyone signed up to speak?

Kathryn StarkeyChair

We have one um one person, Marcia Lamana. Or Lamana? And I believe she is online now.

Kathryn StarkeyChair

Good morning. Good morning.

Kathryn StarkeyChair

Okay,

Kathryn StarkeyChair

to just start speaking. Yes, name and address please.

It's Marcia Lamana, [address removed].

Thank you.

Go ahead. Okay. Um I reside in the Leisure Beach subdivision and last night we invited the county to come and update us on the dredging project. We last spring we submitted about four hundred names on petitions um about waiting for update and we were waiting for updates this fall on what was happening with dredging. We had a uh disappointing meeting last night. We heard that the the um timelines were not what we expected and we were a

little disappointed because the meeting we were waiting for our initial update was the store committee of October which was canceled. We're understanding there's some issues due to delays in the attorney's office, change in project managers, new rules, multiple assessments on the same areas, long procurement procedures, and we're hoping that the commissioners can help get this project and the processes around it moving at a little bit more acceptable rate. Last night we were shown a time frame that is pushed out and potentially

not completely. canals where we are until two thousand and twenty six. We've got a real safety issue here and we have residents that have got major damage to the props on many of the roads. We're having near misses in the main access channel because boats need to stay on plane when entering the channel and smaller boats are sometimes washed to shore or onto the rocks. We've got a lot of situations where there's children the in these boats and we're we're getting really concerned. It seems to be getting worse because we have more traffic now too. We

have people even in the community now that are talking about selling their homes and looking to move more towards um Hernando because the canal they feel the canal access is better there. We'd like to to see this project as well as all these multiple processes reviewed and maybe streamlined where possible and hopefully get the time frame moved up. And due to all the existing delays in several areas and so we could help manage our community's expectations and we'd like to start seeing maybe a project timeline with a critical path so we can actually

follow where the project is. So we're really hoping that the commissioners could kinda help us um with this and and help move it along a little bit faster. Um the community has offered to take any of the commissioners and all the commissioners out for a ride anytime to see the area if you'd like to, you know, show we can we show you where the concerns are. Just um just hoping that we can kinda help and and keep pushing this along. It it seems to have slowed down quite a bit. So I appreciate you letting me take the time

to speak about this and I'm hoping we can get your help on it.

Thank you very much.

Kathryn StarkeyChair

Um do we have anyone else on the No, uh that's it. This will be a fast morning, guys. Okay, um at this time we are going to uh move on to

Unidentified speakerVoice B

take public comment from the audience if there is any.

Kathryn StarkeyChair

No, there's nobody. D would anyone like to speak who has not signed up this morning?
