- Affordable housing study and all commissioners present
Mariano Good afternoon, Commissioners. Thank you all. Um I when Kathy and I met, you know, as Chairman of the Housing Authority for the last fourteen years, We have seen a significant issue um with people being able to afford housing. So we started a program called Family Self Sufficiency, so where the Housing Authority would put a portion of Someone who was at the housing authorities rent in an escrow account and help them put a down payment on a house. This was after they went through all these financial courses and everything else and got very self sustaining, and then we went to the market to try to find Housing. There was none available. That they could even afford uh in Pasco County. And I don't call it affordable housing. For me, it's workforce housing because these people, although they lived in a Pasco County housing authority community, Worked every day. They were working in our county. They had a um We even worked
- C-54 Vincent House affordable housing project
Mariano Okay. And the basic motion for this pull and revise is you're taking the term from what would have been a twenty-year contract to keep it affordable housing, has now been agreed uh to go to a hundred-year contract uh to keep it affordable housing. And I'm gonna put a special thank out uh uh the Vincent House is such an awesome organization. Uh David Lembert from Withlacucci Electric Company, the best electric company on the planet, uh wants to see this. go as well. So when this came up in conversation yesterday, you guys had your conversation. He agreed to go the hundred years. That just shows you the commitment to the affordable housing, which this program is all designed about. So again, I want to thank Mr. David Lambert for doing just a phenomenal job in keeping to the mission. This is a phenomenal, phenomenal project.
- Appoint commissioner Affordable Housing Advisory Committee
Mariano not done. We will meet um Those uh our fire rescue team out front of the building at noon unless they can get here earlier. So I need to make an appointment today. So there's been a statute change for the year and we need to appoint a commissioner to serve on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. The change was effective October 1st, so that is why we're doing it now instead of our during the reorganization session next month. Um Staff is expecting to have a meeting soon, so we need to do that. What I would love to do is take volunteers for this opportunity. I know some um affordable housing is very dear to some of our friends on the commission.
