Resolution number 21-264, a resolution by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida, commending Moffitt Cancer Center and recognizing August 1st as World Lung Cancer Day. Whereas world lung I'm sorry, whereas lung cancer is a global concern, the World Health Organization has reported that lung cancer is responsible for nearly one in five cancer deaths, 20%, across the globe. August first is recognized as World Lung Cancer Day to increase awareness of lung cancer risk factors and the importance of early screening and treatment. And whereas in the United States, lung cancer makes up almost 25% of all cancer deaths, and each year more people die from lung cancer than from colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. Anne RAS Moffitt Cancer Center is a national leader in the prevention, treatment, and research of lung cancer dedicated to informing and empowering people at high risk of developing lung cancer.

Catchment area are impacted by lung cancer, and whereas smoking is the number one risk factor for lung cancer, and Pasco County has the highest percentage of residents who smoke, 23.3%, among Moffitt Cancer Centers catchment area counties. Other other known risk factors include environmental exposures, i.e., rate on gas, asbestos, secondhand smoke. Age. Most diagnosis are among adults 65 or older. Family history, radiation at the chest area, and lung disease, i.e., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Starkey Mr. Chairman M I have one more thing. Um so we have a program that we we help fund in the county that Um I was involved in starting called AM Skills. It's American Manufacturing Skills. We used to call it Skills Initiative, but now we just say AMSkills. It's a it's um right now it's a thirteen thousand square foot training center in um robotics, mechatronics. all things manufacturing and we are we got money from the legislature to expand our high school program. So we will be opening up um Um a uh We're not gonna call it a manufacturing academy. I I don't recall the name of it. Um but we're gonna be in um the high school in Angeline with our Amskills Academy that will be uh a a feeder for um workers for you. So we're excited to have that relationship with um Amskills and Moffitt. And I'd love to give you a tour uh over here. It's over here on holiday, but we go out into the communities, but

Starkey Starkey. Um hey, good morning, and good morning, Speaker Moffitt. Um so uh Josh, you and I talked about this, and as you know, this board is very excited that you guys are here. But I did have some questions, and I don't know if Dave needs to come up because I I'm just seeing these papers. And um so as I mentioned to you on the phone, one one of the concerns for me was was that my understanding when y y'all were coming was that the parcels were gonna be sold. Um and you're non profit, so therefore we're not collecting property taxes. Um So it You sent me a paper that said if you lease If Moffitt leases the space to a for-profit company, we will get property taxes. So I just I just feel we have to protect the the county's investment in and our and our you know our our general revenue may take a big hit here soon. So um this is all very
