But I did have some questions, and I don't know if Dave needs to come up because I I'm just seeing these papers. And um so as I mentioned to you on the phone, one one of the concerns for me was was that my understanding when y y'all were coming was that the parcels were gonna be sold. Um and you're non profit, so therefore we're not collecting property taxes. Um So it You sent me a paper that said if you lease If Moffitt leases the space to a for-profit company, we will get property taxes. So I just I just feel we have to protect the the county's investment in and our and our you know our our general revenue may take a big hit here soon. So um this is all very
Starkey And and I'm also so excited that um you are choosing Pasco County for your expansion. And when we learned of this, um A couple of years ago. Uh it was it was uh hard to keep it quiet, but we did. And um Uh gosh, I like so many people in this room, you know, I've had family members who have traveled to Moffitt for their treatment and all have been successful th thankful thankfully. But Um You know, this this is so great for your organization. It's great for our county, but this is magnificent for the Tampa Bay area and Florida as well. So I'm just so excited. that we're we're starting down this path and um I'm very glad you have an ombudsman or someone special to help you. I know all of us are here to help you be as successful as possible. And um I do wanna talk to the engineer about the trails and that road. So um We'll have that conversation. But great location. Starkey Well, I'll second it and I just wanna say two things. Okay. One, hopefully that bill has died that says a county cannot give any money to a nonprofit because then we wouldn't be able to help you. So let I don't know where that is, but when we get our update Ralph We'll we'll find out about that. Um, I wanna tell you a story that um Two months ago, I I every month I play this game called Bunko, I've been doing it for thirty something years. And um one of my girlfriends in my group said that um both she and her husband have cancer and they're both being treated by Mafia. And they were so excited that they could just drive, you know, ten minutes and get their treatment instead of taking a whole day and um going down to uh Tampa. And um so this this was the week you opened. They they that and uh they were heading over uh over to Wesley Chapel or where whatever we call that area, I'm not sure. Uh Atlanta Lakes. So um so
Starkey getting sponsors for the Pasco Clinic because they all participated in charitably in the counties that they lived in. So while we had high paying jobs here, we weren't getting the benefit of it. So for me that that's important p I don't know how you codify it, but to me that's a important important part of the matrix is that the high paying the high wage earners actually live here and support our businesses. Um and then third, uh especially since you added manufacturing in there, I hadn't seen that before. And I great that we I'm glad we have PH S C in there and US F and I see President Hall sitting in the background, but We have a manufacturing program that the county supports and we would like to add that uh into this as well. Um as part of the um agreement and those are my those are my three issues and I'm much more comfortable with it now now that um this has all been explained.
Starkey Okay, and then the um the other uh item that I spoke to Mr. Carpenter about was, you know, it's my hope. I know we're we're making all these jobs and I and I spoke to David about this too and he said they don't really factor this in. I it it's not an issue when we do these contracts, but for me it is, is that if we're if we're asking for these you know, we're excited about these high paying jobs Um I like to see those people live here. I I I had this experience when I um first started working with All Children's Hospital back when they were putting up their satellite office in a satellite hospital or clinic in Pasco County and I was in charge of fundraising and I would there weren't many businesses back then in the early nineties that were here, so I started knocking on what businesses were here, car dealers. And whatever. And everyone said to me, Oh, we love all children's hospital. We donate down in in Saint Pete, you know, because we live down there. So I had a really hard time
Starkey Let me talk a bit about the uh a little bit about the future. Um first of all, Commissioner Weightman, um almost all technical schools, they're all publicly funded. We we we are one of the few who's going after private funding. But every technical school is publicly funded. PTEC. Marchman, um, I don't know, you know, the community colleges, those are publicly funded. They are they are not money makers. Um We have coming um and and I know it I know it's some of this talk was very technical but industrial maintenance technician is did I say it right This is where we are gonna shine and I can't tell you how big the need is. Pasco County is gonna be taking advantage of it. Tampa Bay Water is taking advantage of it. They cannot find employees. US Water Uh as a matter of fact, Tampa Bay Water has brought in their state association people because the whole state needs this training. They're all having troubles. All the a bunch of little cities, they need this training. Um talking to the uh Moffitt,
