Jack Mariano Okay. One of the things that um The rope center we had done for them a few years back was we we built a building for them on Rhodes Road right off US nineteen. Uh it houses twenty males, twenty females, all in a bunk bed situation. Okay. So th they've got land to the side of it where they could actually build another structure like that. And this could be more catered to Ladies on their own.

Uh Congressman Bill Arrakis, which Premier doesn't know this yet, has reached out to me and asked if we would consider putting a commun a federally qualified health center, Premier, and expansion in there. We are looking at that. Um This is a uh big boom for our community and will really go a long way to help with combating homelessness uh as well, especially uh this is a veterans family housing community, which is one that we desperately need within this county and it will help with uh some of the homelessness along the nineteen corridor. Jack Mariano That's right. I'd like you to share it with the board as well. Um You know, I'm I'm l I'm I'm glad we're doing the housing first, but I'm a little concerned what's gonna happen when the money runs out. These people are in homes. What are we gonna do? in two years when there's not the carers money, there's other other money's not available, how are these people gonna be making on their on their own if you looked at all that and how do you think the success rate's gonna be?
Jack Mariano today, tomorrow, and start pushing this thing forward. But I figured while I get you right here right now, it's a it's a it should be a real easy thing to get them to go do the inspection. If not Wait on the inspection, but let him house the people right now that are homeless. I mean they want to s all these programs we have for homeless and I get a chance to do it and the Fed G federal governments want to hold me down in sixty more days.
Jack Mariano You know, to talk about years ago when we looked at what others were doing with the homeless and one of the programs we looked at was at San Francisco, which I did not want to copy. Uh their most successful service they did with all the millions and billions of however much money they spent, um, was actually, as you just said, shipping people back to where they came from. And I will tell you I know that we've been victimized by people from other places bringing their people to here. And they come here. I don't want to be the beacon for the homeless to come. Nope. Take care of our own, et cetera, but anyone from a different place. And I know we did this with the with the United Way a few years ago. We put like thirty or forty thousand dollars aside so they could ship 'em out. The sheriff loves the idea as well. I think it's a program to go with and and make it easy. Um talking to Pastor Jen the other day, she had some people from out of town up in Virginia. They've got next to kin. They'll be for like two more weeks and they're going back up. That's I think one of the ultimate approaches. The other thing that we did, years ago we put a panhandling ordinance which didn't work. Uh we then put the right-of-way safety units in
Jack Mariano Yeah, so with Habitat maybe that would open up the door to go take a look at that leisure lane project again to go forward. And and by the way, I wanna thank you, Don, when we were clearing out that. Last section down there that had to be done was a major job by our our team. Um thank you for going out there to trying to get reach out to those people one on one to try to get them services. So thank you for that.
