Commissioner Starkey pumps roads and school bus partnership

2:24:23Okay, I have lots of pictures and while they're loading them up maybe um they could start with the pumps on uh Little Road. Um I'll say uh yesterday I had the opportunity to speak at the East Pasco Networking Group. And um it was my first time to the Sarah Vandenberg Tennis Center. Yeah, and uh I have to say it's very nice. I I love the architecture. It's just a really great addition to Pasco County and I'm I'm really glad we have it. Um

2:24:54this is the pump. That is at uh behind Thousand Oaks on Little little uh road. And then there's another pump across the street. Basically these are now permanent pumps. But that's really unsightly and you know me about aesthetics. I I I just think you're driving down the road, that's not a premiere looking situation right there. I also think it's prone to um potential vandalism. And you know, I don't wanna do anything

2:25:25really expensive because I know we have these type budgets. I just think we should build some kind of structure that goes around that. So it doesn't look like that. Because that That's not a positive looking thing right there. And they're they're temporary pumps. Permanently placed. So want to suggest that next year's budget. I think we actually take them out of there during

2:26:58that silver, that great building. So I don't know if you've ever driven down this road, but Commissioner Moore, before you were elected, I took you down Well Built Mats. Yeah, it's really bad. That's just all patches right there. So it's going through the P Bass as and Alex um took it on and when we were When we were out there, I got the count and at the time She was losing by four votes. It was like 79 to

2:27:2974 or something. I'm waiting for Ainsley to come in here, but um I'm really hoping this turns out to be positive because the situation the board's taking where it has to be fifty percent approved. If it's close, I'm hoping you'll just will we can still bring it to us and do a board initiated because that that road has failed and um needs to be fixed and it's costing them a lot of money to get the cars fixed. 2:28:11Okay, so so when Ainsley and I were out, we went to look at that um that P VAS that was done on Gulf Tr you know, the P folks off of Gulf Trace Boulevard and um So I found this. This is the truck of a lawnmower company and you see what he's doing underneath with that little bucket. He's catching the oil. Yeah, and so if you'll scroll through these pictures, um and there he is. Uh now okay,

2:28:42so we went to that the cul-de-sac And it was very interesting. This is oil that I believe is coming from the lawnmower trucks on our new road. And if you see that black patch up there closest to you, I learned that what what starts happening with this oil is it starts eating away the asphalt. And especially on this one cul-de-sac We don't think it's the garbage trucks that are going through there or the garbage truck and th they already have one garbage

2:29:12truck. It's their lawnmower companies that are doing this to our roads.

Um But I I get I get why those people can be frustrated if their road is falling apart, but it's

2:30:20the people they're hiring, I think, to do it. And we're um so John Batista was going out with a pressure washer to pressure wash the one cul-de-sac where it's really chewing through the asphalt. And then they're gonna see, we're gonna follow up, um, 'cause it's not the garbage truck. With the people with their lawn mowering companies, they're parking out front so they can see that that it's their c their contractor, but I just think they're they shouldn't be allowed to do that to our runs. And and I appreciate

2:30:50the guy who put the pan underneath that well, he says he's parked there for twenty minutes and he catches all his oil. What he does with it at the end of the day, I don't know. After

2:31:02that was really eye opening to me, so Um, okay, last I think this is the last thing. Um Better B. Uh this is a new subdivision in West of Chapel. Okay. There's no trees. I'm thinking this is I don't know if it's cell trees or yours. Do you do separate hill? What's what's the tapest rails? Okay. It's

2:31:22all gerrymander.

2:31:28Um and I also want to look at the very good architecture that's on that building. Not um This is again a real failing by our code, in my opinion. Now they now the townhomes are making an attempt to put some greenery, but they're putting the palm tree that we don't allow anymore. This is a a queen palm that attracts rats and coco cockroaches and

2:31:52the first freeze you have they'll die.

2:31:53So it needs to be a different kind of palm tree, but this is the first time I'm gonna say the town home looks better than the single family house. So I mentioned to um T B B A If they can't do a better job, maybe we need to look at making the landscaping be a percentage of the total price of the house. What's Raised some people's blood temperature, but or blood whatever, pressure. But they need

2:32:24to do a better job. And so I'm I'm here to say If you go go back to that those houses. We need better architecture. My understanding is city of day city. Is requiring better architecture on their homes? Uh uh go back again?

2:32:41And a minimum of fifty foot lots.

2:32:49Yeah. Um lastly Jack on the buses in Europe um and here. When I was on the school board and Pasco County started the fifty the 54 bus that goes from one side of the county to the other. I thought that that should be a partnership between the school district and the county because we have students, we have magnet schools and we have academies that are placed at different schools around the county, and school district doesn't provide

2:33:20buses to those magnets. schools and we should have some kind of partnership where they can someone in the center can go east or west along the 54 route and then get picked up by a school bus or something. It seems to me we could work it out. I have have friends that lived in Cypress Run Country Club in Pinellas County. And their kids went to a magnet school down in Clearwater, and they all rode the Pinellas County

2:33:50bus and were picked up at the quarter of Tarpon Springs Boulevard in 19. And they took the bus to their middle school and they took the bus back. So I'd love to see. more happened between the school district and the county on the buses.

2:34:07If I could, Commissioner Starkey, Mr. Chairman? I think it's a great idea, but that's a great first step of nothing else. And that's something that wouldn't affect our bus ridership whatsoever other than increase it, but it would help our students and our parents get these kids to those schools that are so desirable.

2:34:23Yeah, and it would get um more youth used to riding a public bus. I used to ride it all the time when um Dr. Bellis was talking about that movie theater. I probably took that middle school. I probably took a bus to that movie theater and watched those dollar movies all Saturday morning with my brother and sister. So um I rode I rode the public bus from Oakland to San Francisco when I was in seventh grade to get my ears pierced. I mean That's a long way. So

2:34:54yeah, our youth aren't used to riding our buses, and I think they should be. So there you go. That's it.
