- R30BCC Discussion on Fiscal Year 2026 Budget
Ron Oakley Commissioner Weightman. Thank you. So We heard about homelessness this morning and I think the east side of the county. It is probably as high as it's ever been, at least to the Noticeable to the eye visual eye. When it comes to I look at a thriving community and when you s maintain public health and safety Homelessness fits in kind of bucket one and bucket two with a hands of quality of life. Um I really want to understand. And Commissioner Oak alluded to this several you know, in different conversations throughout the Yeah. I really want to understand our options. I I want to be as disciplined as possible with how much money we throw at it because we're taking valuable Resources from our taxpayers. no choice of their own. This government takes their money and we're we're putting it towards people who don't give Two rips. about

- board reports commissioner updates
Ron Oakley tell me when we directed staff And I'm talking about for the area in the Uh just off Little Road, Boys and Girls Club where we decided we was gonna take care of homeless and we we had some kind of direction at that time and I don't remember exactly the date, but it was sometime in two thousand nineteen or two thousand twenty. It's been two or three years, if I'm not mistaken. And the problem I have is that building's closed. It's not being, it's not helping homeless right here now.
- Board reports
Ron Oakley Okay, sounds good. Um I did have a couple of things. I was happy to go out to uh Pasco Hope, as you see here. Oh got the visit there and see those those homes being put in and all. I did get a few calls on this project that uh people didn't want homeless coming in these homes but in fact homeless whether you lost your home to the flooding or lost your home some other way is still homeless. So um but I think they forget the fact of people coming into these places uh really are coming in there to get help and we're gonna give them that help and give them a step up and into their lives where they'll move on out of these out of these homes. like this. So one way or the other I think it's a good good project and good for the the county. The other thing was uh
- public comment on homeless camps HOAs and sidewalks
