- R1(11:00 AM TIME CERTAIN) Presentation- USA BMX - Proposed BMX Track for Pasco County - No Funding Required
Starkey Thank you. Um uh Tina Russo is is uh watching us and she just reminded me and I meant to say this, so as you know, Tower Road is the Orange Belt Trail. So one of the most Important trails. I think it's gonna be in the Tampa Bay area. It's gonna be the Orange Belt Trail and that is gonna go right in front of it. So another function of this park is a trailhead for the Orange Belt Trail. And right now we don't have a even have a trailhead for the Starkey Trail. People are parking on the grass over there on Trinity Boulevard. Um And um and Tina mentions that she also did work with BMX in Hillsborough County. So um I um recall that the legislature helped fund the rowing complex. In Sarasota County. I don't know if our county attorney who lives down in that area knows anything about that, but they got a nice allocation. She was here. And so there are there
- Commissioner reports on trails and FAC meetings
Starkey thank you to everyone who came out. Commissioner Mariano is there as well. That trail. Is a is a much loved trail and um And uh This the dedication was long overdue, but I'm glad we got it done. We also did a virtual uh celebration of the Um Coastal Encloat Trail. Kathy was also with that one and Sam. And I had so many neighbors from Gulf Harbors. As you know, we don't have a park anywhere around there, anywhere to ride. So I couldn't believe how many of my neighbors put cars or dogs in their car and drove over there to take their dog for a walk, including Barbara Wilhite. Um and um just gave rave reviews on the Coastal Enclove Trail. And um actually the project manager for uh the uh trail that will be the extension of the Penellus Trail was at our dedication. for the Starkey Trail. And so he's very excited and
- Starkey Gap Trail ribbon cutting November
Dade City I think Commissioner Starkey wanted me to come up to Uh bring up the um Ribbon cutting we're having for the Starkey Gap Trail. on November thirteenth. It's turning out to be a big event. Where We will have the ribbon cutting at the trail. We have former president of the Senate, Andy Gardner, who had the vision for the Coast to Coast Trail, which is a 250-mile trail from Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County. going over to the Space Coast. So we have a continuous trail now. uh with the completion there are still about fifty miles worth of gaps around the state but that's a big event uh that we are looking forward to to having um And uh a lot of dignitaries will be in town from uh Tallahassee for that. So we're looking forward to that. So we hope you can come out to that on November
- Commissioner reports on trails and FAC meetings
Starkey in the middle. Next to me is Steve Diaz, who's the head of MPO for Hernando County, and he's very big trails guy. We have Secretary Gwynne, but there's our honorary speaker of the day. That's former Senate President Andy Garner. And it's Andy who started the program when he was Senate president to annually fund um the Sun Trail program to the I believe it's to $25 million a year, although this year they may be taking a hiatus. So um But um we're we were really uh happy that he drove over from Orlando to to speak um to this this trail dedic at this trail dedication and I wanted to be sure you saw um Uh Commissioner Eggers is in that photo. Many members of the State Greenways and Trails Council are in here. And of course you see our Kathy Pearson and Sam Bennett, the trail, the project manager. We have former Commissioner, well, the Chairman of the Sarasota County Commission, Betsy Bennett, is there. Or Manit Manatee County. And um So

Yesterday or the day before with the uh project manager Sam Bennick And I just wanted to share with you some photos. of the trail under construction and um And and show you how beautiful this trail is gonna be. And so these are th as you can see the uh the final asphalt is not on there yet, but the contractor is on schedule and we should have this uh ribbon cutting sometime In late September, maybe October. I think he may be in ahead of time. Um, can you s scroll through some of the other pictures there? They they really uh walked the the um the route and made sure they were saving big trees and having beautiful views and I really appreciate that. Um We have uh a lot of people who use this property for motorcycle racing and jumping. And so, um, it's been

Starkey Yeah. And it's a nice trail. Um and it goes all the way to Bruce Bowns when you get onto Wiregrass Boulevard over there I believe. Um But it really lacks any amenities, any signage, any benches. There's nothing there. So I would love for one of you two guys t um or both of you to kinda Um Take it into consideration that we could take Um trees from 4G Ranch. We could take m um some money from our landscaping fund. Um we could have Boy Scouts build some little shelters along there. We could amenitize that trail. I didn't see anybody on it. And I'd really um like that to be a well used amenity out there. So just just a thought for you guys. And um that is it. Huh?
