The people that are working to campaign to pass this renewal of the penny sales tax. I can say that I do represent the group when I say the group supports this ordinance as written. And I'm here to tell you that we're doing very well on fundraising. For those of you who are at our kickoff meeting last Thursday, thank you for being there. For those that weren't, I hope you'll come and meet with us and join us at other things. I wanted to say something about the history of the penny, not to reiterate what you've already heard. Several speakers and that's what the original intent of this penny was for. So with that in mind, my personal opinion, this is not the penny pack, my personal opinion is the county needs to emulate the school district and have a citizen oversight committee. that actually looks at the projects that this penny, this newer version of the penny is going to cover. And gives their input on it. So With that, I want to say yes, I'm 100% for the penny. I'm for this ordinance, the way it's written, and I want to remind you all of what it's supposed to do. Several speakers we're going to be doing a very large educational push to get this penny through. Um in 2004 it was very tight. And in 2004, one of the things that helped us pass this penny was the fact that the county in particular committed to specific projects that had to do with improving older infrastructure, traffic lights, intersections, old roads, and it helped pass the penny. And then we got two thousand and twelve, the renewal in two thousand and twelve. And we added something new. which was the economic development section. And all of us supported that too. And there have been a lot of good things that have come out of that. So here we are now in 2022. And I would like to remind the board that there are still many, many things about our older infrastructure. that needs attention

Amber Tucker that is due used for traffic might be inadequate. If the county is in fact using outdated formulas that do not properly calculate growth, how does that make our community better? From the Pasco County Office of Economic Growth website, target industries do not have to pay mobility fees to the county when they locate or expand their business in Pasco. During the March 21st Planning Commission meeting, residents were told that we're in a chicken and egg scenario where the county can't build infrastructure before it is needed. Giving incentives to businesses while telling residents we can't get improved infrastructure unless there are heads in beds, another quote from the Planning Commission, how does that make our community better? The only reason we have seen any improvements in our neighborhood is because residents are paying more in sales tax through the penny for passage. That's why we have that nice sidewalk from Hudson Avenue to the Hudson Schools Complex because taxpayers are paying extra the penny for Pasco. The penny for Pasco generally brings in more revenue than projected. Can penny funds be used to make

Eight hundred and fifty five million is for schools. 342 million is for transportation. 171 million is for public safety. We are yet to hear where the fire stations are going. We are yet to hear where the public schools are going. and we do not accept the explanations for why the proper roads aren't being put in to protect the existing residents. I bring this up because Hillsborough County Fire Rescue just opened the third fire station on the main dragon Brandon, And on day one, it became the second most busy fire station in all of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. And they run over 130,000 calls per year. That station was fifteen years overdue.

It it is subsidized by three different sources, which is um the transportation portion of the penny, the um second local option gas tax, and a portion of the tax increment funds. So it is made up from another revenue source. But I think Nick will tell you that the amount of permits that use that particular fee reduction is fairly minimal. So I don't think it's gonna be something that would break the bank.

Several speakers path and bicycle path that's coming through Pasco. That's being paid for with penny for Pasco dollars. So I think uh the total thing is being paid for with paying for Pasco. Where's Penny for Pasco? Can we get some pennies for Leisure Beach? For these for this dredge. These are things that we need to look at, folks. I think there's there's money in other places that before we go with an MSBU, I think I also think The water from homes, listen, listen, we're all fortunate enough to have these homes on the water, we get to utilize the water. But with that We pay some of the highest taxes, I believe, in Pasco County because of the because of the value of our properties. I feel we've already paid for this in our taxes. So before we go and address it with an MSBU and hit everybody up with taxes, I think we need to look at everything else. Again, it needs to be done, otherwise our our property becomes useless. But we need to find a good way to pay for it. Thank you for hearing me.
