Orange Belt Trail meeting in San Antonio

Starkey Yeah. I can't do I can do forty or three or forty with the up the hills. But um so I did plan to to come and and look at it more closely, but we don't need to solidify a route today. The routes, you know, it's gonna be piece by piece by piece. We don't have the money to build it all. And um and I would imagine that that piece out here will be one of the last pieces we do. So it'll be a number of years and we don't need to have a lot of hysteria about it yet. it somewhat happened organically and um but I this is this is not uncommon for a trail in any community. That happened this happened in Penelis County. I will say the citizens who lived in the people who live in Cypress Run which is by me they mixed it coming behind their golf community on the old Orange Belt trail line. And they

Starkey Okay, so where is the Orange Belt Trail along Aaron Cut? The Orange Belt Trail is coming up Aaron Cutoff. So what I'm asking is where is it on this map? So I know that we've protected that that very important piece of land. I don't know if it's on the east side or the west side.

Starkey regret it now. They thought people were gonna jump the fence and rob them and you know, throw TVs over their ten foot high masonry wall and uh on the other side of the golf course. I mean, I think they realize now it's it it's an asset to an area. It raises your property values a minimum of 15%. So trails can be just a wonderful thing, but we're not gonna force it on anybody and we'll we'll find our route here.

R1(11:00 AM TIME CERTAIN) Presentation- USA BMX - Proposed BMX Track for Pasco County - No Funding Required

Starkey Thank you. Um uh Tina Russo is is uh watching us and she just reminded me and I meant to say this, so as you know, Tower Road is the Orange Belt Trail. So one of the most Important trails. I think it's gonna be in the Tampa Bay area. It's gonna be the Orange Belt Trail and that is gonna go right in front of it. So another function of this park is a trailhead for the Orange Belt Trail. And right now we don't have a even have a trailhead for the Starkey Trail. People are parking on the grass over there on Trinity Boulevard. Um And um and Tina mentions that she also did work with BMX in Hillsborough County. So um I um recall that the legislature helped fund the rowing complex. In Sarasota County. I don't know if our county attorney who lives down in that area knows anything about that, but they got a nice allocation. She was here. And so there are there

Starkey Well I have I have a long list but um I'm gonna first call up Mr Engel. But you can't start until Commissioner Oakley's back. Yeah. Um so let me just say, do you mind bringing up that last picture I sent over there? Um this is um The orange belt trailed front when I went from the slides. And that's coming right there at fifty two in Happy Hill. Right on that corner. So I'm not really happy that in our packet it said it was nowhere near the trail because it's actually on the trail. We just don't we just don't know if it's on the north side or the south side. So I really think it's important that every time that we need to have that context when we see projects coming through. Um I'm sorry Commissioner Oakley isn't here, but and and Lisa this is like a major trail coming through the county. It's called the Orange Belt Trail. It's similar to the Penelis County Trail. As a matter of fact, it's on

Starkey Yeah. Um it's easy to put those on those signs and let those folks who were riding the trails uh nowhere restaurants or other services or other amenities are around you. So I hope that we get maybe this is the year we get going on some branding. And that that trail that you saw going across the county Uh it's called the Orange Belt Trail. And that f that somewhat follows the Orange Belt Railroad right away, which sadly This county did not hold on to. We have some of it. Um, but it was actually auctioned off on our courthouse steps decades ago. When I became a commissioner, I I I think I stopped it. I tried to stop it. So um we have to do some workarounds. Uh but we uh It's just another route for the coast to coast and it it has more economic opportunity in our county because it goes through some some areas. uh where the where there is opportunity where the the s current Sun Coast

Starkey And it's called the Orange Belt Trail. We have no idea. And it and looking at I'm here on the property appraiser site and it's touching a lot of people's property and um You know, that's that needs to happen in a very good way. um and make sure that all the neighborhoods have access to this trail that's coming from Trinity to the Woodla Coochie State Trail sooner than you think. So um just ha had to get my trail two pieces in.

Starkey land. Yeah, and and you know, we have tried to reassure them uh that that's not the case. But I am you know, how's gonna be gone until October twenty third, but here I am so uh all things things go well. Uh I will be d they will be driving me around some of the people here and and I'll be actually driving or or riding my bike on some of the alternative routes so I know the area better. Yeah because I don't know the area well. Um but I have a lot of friends who come and cycle up here.

Um but the orange belt that is not part of the orange belt. From what I've seen. It goes up over until we get the the Orange Belt Trail
